I studied classical guitar with master guitarist, Christopher Parkening, at Montana State University where I graduated with a B.M.E. I also did graduate work at MSU in composition. I hold a M.M in Violin Performance with over 30 years teaching experience in Traditional & Suzuki methods. I am the founder/director of the Red Rocks Music Festival.
Students in this area will receive extensive instruction on musicality, the fundamentals of reading/interpreting musical notation/symbols, comfortable and physically healthy approaches to holding the instrument and practicing effective posture, as well as performance techniques. Most beginners will start from the Suzuki series. Lessons are custom tailored and planned according to the individual student and his/her individual needs. What do you want to learn, and what do you hope to gain from our time together? These questions are among my top priorities when starting with a new client. All levels (including advanced) are included in this category (see lessons for Audition Preparation as well).
After graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance (Violin) from the artistically vibrant and widely recognized music program at Central Washington University, I traveled to the nationally recognized Herberger Institute for Design and the Arts at Arizona State University where I am currently in my 2nd year of my Master's Degree in Music. I have been teaching both in-home and in a professional capacity since 2005. Having personally prepared many auditions, I have both experiential and technical advice to offer intermediate to advanced players. Music theory and its applications is another one of my passions and I am always excited to share this knowledge in all instrumental lessons, which include both violin and viola. Lessons through this website will be held at
I have been playing the violin for 14 years and teaching for 7 years. My curriculum includes a heavy emphasis on sound quality and correct, relaxed technique, followed by musicality and a well rounded music education. My goal is for students to be well versed not only in how to play violin, but also be knowledgeable in music history and theory. I believe that students should enjoy their music lessons while utilizing their individual learning style. I am strict, but also fun!
I am a recent graduate from the University of Idaho. I earned my degree in Instrumental Music Education and have been teaching privately for 7 years. My main instrument is violin, but I took to other instruments very fast and am very qualified to teach viola, cello, clarinet and saxophone. Before moving to Arizona, I taught many violin students through my own private studio and through the University of Idaho Preparatory Division. My students ranged from ages 3 to 50. I currently teach private instrumental lessons to grades 2-8 at a private school and work at an after school program at a charter school. The majority of my experience is with students age 3 through 8th grade.
As a teacher, I offer a guiding hand that will lead you through the world of music. You will learn how to read music, understand how to preform your instrument for others, and enjoy the art of playing your instrument.
I have been preforming the Violin and Viola since I was in grade school. My performances have taken me to California, Utah and various parts around Arizona.
I look forward to teaching you and I am ready to begin our musical journey together.
I have studied the Violin/ Viola since I was in 4th grade. I teach the Suzuki Method. I am also a Strings Instructor for a Prep Academy. I have taught many students of all different ages from children age 5 to adults in their 70's. I love teaching one on one and encourage my students to preform whenever possible. My students learn to read music, memorize, and advance quickly through practice. I look forward to teaching you and I am ready to begin our musical journey together.
