About Me

I began my music career at age five playing the piano and a few years later the saxophone. At age eleven I traded my saxophone in for a guitar and that is when I discovered my true passion for music. I took lessons from various talented professors who teach at Berkeley School of Music as well as classes. I have also studied music myself at Florida Atlantic University. I later ran a guitar clinic for 3 summers in a row.

*** Lesson Details ***
From years of teaching experience I have found that every individual learns in a different way. That is why I make a point to cater to each student's individual needs. In the first lessons I assess how the student learns and build my lessons around that students needs. I take into consideration their pace, how they absorb knowledge best, their attention span and most importantly what they want to get out of guitar lessons.

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have a whole studio setup, all that is needed is your guitar.

*** Travel Equipment ***
Must have your own guitar! I will travel with mine.

*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching students how to perform with other musicians right from the beginning. As well as teaching them how to create rather then sticking inside the box!

Michael J. Santa Rosa, CA

Subjects Taught

Acting, Bass Guitar, Broadway Singing, Clarinet, Classical Guitar, Flute, Guitar, Music Performance, Music Recording, Music Theory, Piano, Saxophone, Singing, Speaking Voice, Trombone, Trumpet

About Me

I have been involved in music all of my life. As a child I played trumpet in band and sang in school and church choirs. My favorite movies were musicals and they still are my favorite. Music was my major in college, which included singing, dancing, acting and playing musical instruments. I like all types of music. As a school teacher, I taught 3rd. grade through high school, everything from band and choir to musical theater. I also taught private students, of all ages, piano, guitar, voice and most of the wind instruments.

*** Lesson Details ***
My students can expect to learn the basics of music theory, such as melody, harmony, key signature and rhythm. I want my students to have fun by learning the kind of music they like best while learning to appreciate the kind of music that will develop their musical skills. Piano books like John Schaum and guitar books like Mel Bay's Guitar Method are good books to learn to read music and learn the proper way to play your instrument. Scale exercises are important for instrumental, as well as, vocal students. I use a practice log and CD-DVD recordings of my students so they can see and hear their progress. At the end of 6 months I want my students to play their favorite songs in 3 different keys. C, G and F Major.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Designated music room: Two keyboards, guitars, sound equipment, PA system, computers, seating for parents (he encourages it!)

*** Travel Equipment ***
Students need their own inst. I have one of every inst. to demo. except piano and guitar which I have 2 of each.

*** Specialties ***
Open-minded to all music. I specialize in performance. I help my students with their look, as well as, their sound. I know how to bring out the best in my students.

Bass Guitar, Drum, Guitar, Music Theory, Percussion, Piano, Singing, Songwriting

About Me

My first musical memories are jamming with his father Robert (who plays guitar) in a make-shift garage music room in his hometown of San Diego. I soon discovered a love of and fascination with drumming that led me to pursue music as a lifelong passion.

In 2001 I received a B.A. in music from San Diego State University, where I studied classical theory, sang in choirs, took every jazz course available, and played in West African/South Indian drumming ensembles.

*** Lesson Details ***
I've decided to settle down and have made Sonoma my home. I feels blessed to be teaching and learning from students. I strive to share my knowledge and experience in a positive, exciting way, inspiring creativity, individuality and self-discipline.

*** Studio Equipment ***
The home studio is a room separate from rest of house, drum set, electronic drum set, electrical guitar, digital piano, and seating for parents. Parking is available in a dirt driveway.

*** Travel Equipment ***
They should have their own instrument, I will sometimes bring a guitar to drum lessons.

*** Specialties ***
Jazz, Soul, Rock, Pop, Blues, Latin, Funk and 80's.
