Originally from Chicago, I attended Chicago Musical College for 2 years before moving to Calif. and receiving my B.A. in music from Cal. State Northridge. I also have an M.A. in Education from there. I have been a band director in public schools for over 40 years. My bands have won over 50 1st place awards in music competitions. I have been playing keyboard professionally since the age of 14. I truly enjoy working with both kids and adults on a one on one basis, and provide a relaxed and friendly, yet goal-oriented experience.

Steven graduated with his bachelor of music degree from California State University, Northridge. While at C.S.U.N.,Steven was the winner of the Andres Segovia memorial scholarship and the Randy Rhoads memorial scholarship. Also,Steven has studied with many guitar greats such as Christopher Parkening and Randy Rhoads(Ozzy Osbourne). Currently, Steven is recording and performing with the virtuoso violinist Hekar Rivera and is the guitarist in a super cool instrumental Rock/Jazz/ R & B fusion quartet. In addition to performing, Steven teaches guitar at his studio in Ventura. Also, Steven is the head of the music department at North Hills Preparatory School and teaches guitar workshops at the Ventura College Institute.

Melissa has been singing all of her life. She began her vocal training at a very cute age, learning every song she heard, and passionately performing them for friends and family. She later went on to pursue a formal education in Classical Vocal Performance & Jazz technique from California State University, Los Angeles. While completing her Bachelors degree, Melissa was fortunate to have worked with many established artists, bands and producers of various styles, including jazz, blues, rock, pop, soul & funk. These collaborations have allowed her to hone her own voice and successfully pursue professional work.

Most recently, Melissa has enjoyed the opportunity to lead elementary school choirs locally. She will have completed a Masters in Education with a Teaching Credential in 2012, and further, plans to pursue the field of Musical Therapy.

Recently graduating Pepperdine University with my Bachelor’s Degree in Piano Performance and English Literature, I am excited to enrich others with the indispensable knowledge of music. Studying and performing Classical Piano for the past 17 years, I have had the opportunity to perform with the Pepperdine Orchestra, in Piano Master Classes under the direction of established pianists Jura Margulis, Daria Rabotkina, and Jeffrey Siegel, and also in Heidelberg’s Music Program in Germany in 2011. Teaching music lessons for the past 6 years, I have found that both student and teacher benefit from this educational process, and the continued opportunity to expand musical knowledge is an extraordinarily beneficial process. Inspired by the challenging and creative aspects that music presents, I am totally excited to help foster the love for this unique art in you!

I will teach you any song you like from your favorite artist, but I want you to write your own songs. I have plenty of local band experience. I am a graduate of the Musicians institute in Hollywood.

I received my BA in Music from UCSB and my MA in Humanities (emphasis in music history) from CSUDH. I have a piano teacher for many years, and many of my students have gone on to become professional musicians themselves. I am a member of MTAC, am a Certificate of Merit adjudicator, and am on the editorial board of the MTAC state magazine. An enthusiastic and encouraging teacher, I enjoy helping my students achieve their musical goals.
