I am currently in my last year of graduate school at San Jose State University where I will obtain a Master of Arts in Jazz Studies, with an emphasis in drum set performance. I completed my Bachelor of Music in Music Education from San Jose State where I mainly studied snare drum, timpani, and mallet percussion, but also studied the fundamentals in brass, woodwinds, strings, and voice. Additionally, I took private jazz drum set lessons to focus on becoming a versatile musician and teacher.

As an undergraduate student I had the opportunity to teach percussion courses at a music camp to students between the ages of 6 and 17 that had no prior music experience. I developed daily music lessons to help all the students understand musical concepts and performance techniques. This opportunity helped me understand the importance of teaching music to children and how every student has a different way of learning. I am a tenor that will graduate with my MA in music from San Jose State next month. I completed my BA in Music from Fresno State and love to help students reach their singing potential. As an undergraduate student (and in high school) my voice was classified from everything from bass to tenor and this led me down some tricky roads. This experience has helped me understand that the voice is constantly changing and the only way to survive is to have a solid technique. The technique I teach is strongly rooted in classical singing, but with this foundation you will be able to know your voice well enough that you can sing whatever genre you like without damaging your voice.

As a performer I love to perform many different styles. My training is rooted in classical training and I have many operatic roles under my belt. I also love musical theatre and made my professional musical theatre debut last summer as Seaweed in Hairspray. I also love to sing R&B and pop in my free time.

Although my attention has recently been focused on classical music and orchestral double bass playing, my diverse musical background has given me a great deal of experience in many styles. Beginning my studies on electric bass close to ten years ago, I discovered early on that I had a passion and a talent for learning music. Soon after, I decided to pick up the guitar so that I could broaden my understanding of my favorite music. Throughout my life, I have been interested in rock, pop, jazz, funk, and heavy metal. Born to an award winning conductor and music teacher, I was exposed to music at a very early age. With my father’s supervision, I began my piano and ear-training at the age of three. At age four, I joined the Yamaha musical after-school program and engaged in group lessons. As I got older, group lessons gave way to private instruction as I learned and played piano passionately through my childhood.

I was born and raised in Hiroshima, Japan and left my native land in 2006 to the United States to better my education. In school I studied general music, with an emphasis on piano. Additionally, I have also studied Early Childhood Development and Education.
