About Cindy

Music can inspire creativity and growth; it can evoke tranquility and joy. This was the case for Cindy W. who began playing the piano at the age of ten and within a couple of years studied composers such as Debussy, Liszt, Bach, and Chopin. While only in junior high, she started teaching piano, rapidly gaining teaching and business experience. She held annual recitals giving the students an opportunity to perform for their parents and peers in a public setting.

Cindy studied music with Rachel Perez-Hayes, a graduate from the Juilliard School of Music, New York, and was considered gifted and talented with perfect pitch recognition. Her background in music coupled with a Master'€™s degree in Educational Psychology has enabled her to create unique lesson plans for each ...

We are happy with the class

Our 7 year old daughter have been taking piano lessons for 8 months Cindy Withers did a great job for our kid. She is very patient and put priority for accuracy as well as artistic expressions, so our daughter learning with a very good technique that made her very much interested in playing music and we see a change every week. We really like Cindy Withers and we highly recommend her. Cindy Withers is an excellent instructor for our daughter.

Outstanding Performer

Hristo is the most inspirational teacher I've every had the pleasure to learn from. He shares his talent in a way that I look forward to every lesson. His patience and positive reinforcement encourages me to keep practicing. He selects the appropriate music for my level and teaches all genres. Thank you for working with me every week. I hope I get to work with him for as long as I can until he becomes too famous to continue teaching us.

Chloe S. San Jose, CA

About Chloe

Hi there! I am finishing up my BM at San Jose State University, and have been teaching voice and piano lessons for 4 years. I have over 13 years of experience in music, musical theater, and singing, and 19 years of piano training. My most exciting accomplishment to date is my artist residency with Opera San Jose for the 2014/2015 season.

Although my main passion is opera performance I absolutely LOVE to teach as well! I can teach voice to students of all ages and in all styles, and also teach beginning to intermediate piano for all ages.

--Voice Lessons--
I usually like to split the lessons in half: the first half on technique (breathing exercises, posture, body alignment, warm-ups, vowel clarity) and the second half on repertory. I can teach my students to sing in Italian, ...

Chloe has worked out better than we had hoped or expected. She is teaching our mid-elementary aged children and they love her. The children are excited about the lessons, look forward to seeing her, and they enjoy practicing their lessons. If you want a great teacher that can motivate in a positive manner I would suggest Chloe.

Chris taught one lesson to my son, then he cancelled the following week's lesson and never returned numerous phone calls, emails, and text messages. He didn't respond, then the following week at our next scheduled instruction he called me 30 mins before the lesson asking if he could move the date.

Needless to say, it was very unprofessional of him, and we intended to end our relationship with him as my son's instructor.

The thing got worse when he proceeded to schedule my son for a weekly reoccurring lesson for the next year. I've had to manually cancel each lesson, at least until Jan 2015.

I would strongly warn you against signing up with Chris if you expect an instructor who is reliable and responsive to your communications. I'm sorry it didn't work out, but the other problem is that this was my son's first experience to music lessons, so it was a bad first experience.

We're giving 3 out of 5 stars since that seems fair. With regards to the lessons themselves, Chris certainly met our expectations with our son's violin lessons. However, with regards to communications and scheduling, it could have been much better. More than once my son was waiting on Skype after receiving the "You have upcoming lessons" email from TakeLessons. Chris needs to learn how to cancel the lessons ahead of time. He rarely responded to emails (was trying to get him to stop showing our email openly to all his other students, really needs to learn how to use BCC). He never returned phone calls. Due to the canceled lessons, our TakeLesson pay date came prematurely, and since I waited until our son's paid lessons were completed before paying for new ones, we got dropped from the schedule and lost our time slot. Too many frustrations led to finding a new teacher.

Great teacher, especially for kids!

My two boys -- ages 8 & 10 -- needed just the right teacher to begin learning the piano, and I'm so glad we started with Chris. He related to them right away, just sat down and started working with them and within seconds they were playing. He interwove fun with learning seamlessly. The boys looked forward to their lessons with him. Thank you, Chris!!

Gary is a terrific piano/music teacher for my 14 year-old son. We signed up with Gary with the goal of my son learning how to read music. If Gary was looking for a teaching challenge, he found it with my son. The first few months was very difficult, since my son can be very hard to connect with. Despite this, Gary persisted. He always came to lessons bright, energetic, friendly, positive and prepared. It took awhile, but my son is connecting and playing the piano with much more enjoyment in comparison to other attempts I made in the past signing him up for piano and keyboarding. Gary was the right person to help my son build up his music foundation.
