Born in France, raised in Sacramento, I took to music at age five and studied piano formally for twenty years.

I've lived in Europe and the U.S. teaching and playing music.

I am trained pianist and composer, and have spent years teaching, and can teach you or your child a systematic, intuitive method for learning piano. Learning your instrument should be encouraging, exciting and about the creativity in music!

I can teach you how to play songs, read music, learn the basics behind music theory and much more.

We can also tailor the lesson to your interests - blues, pop, modern.

I have spent the last four year writing, producing and licensing music in New York City, and have written modern and classical music on piano and for various ensembles. My work can be heard on HBO, Showtime and in various films.

I have been a professional performing musician and teacher for going on a decade. I've studied jazz guitar and film scoring at Berklee as well as bass and composition at Lewis and Clark. I've toured across the country several times over, playing everything from jazz to funk, metal to pop. More importantly, I've been teaching privately since high school when I'd bike to students houses around my neighborhood. Since then I've taught at the local branches of School of Rock in Portland, OR, Boston, and New York, teaching privately, coaching ensembles, directing student concerts, and teaching theory workshops. I also have been working to integrate cutting edge digital technology into my teaching practices should students wish to explore contemporary practices. Music has long been my life's love, and my highest hopes lie in in sharing its rewards.

Travis grew up in a musical family in Santa Cruz, CA. His father was a professional guitarist and his Grandfather was the head of the music program at Cabrillo College in Aptos, so naturally he grew up with an instrument in his hand. After years of toying with the guitar Travis began formal lesson at the age of 9, quickly developing into an exceptional musician. By the age of 13 Travis was in several rock bands and performing frequently. Once in high school, Travis had no doubt that being a professional musician was what we wanted to do with his life so he started studying jazz and classical piano at a college level, studying with jazz trumpeter/arranger Ray Brown and classically trained pianist Ivan Rosenblum. Travis excelled and quickly began playing in the top Jazz Combo at Cabrillo College and in the top Big Band as well as playing professionally. Calen is a life-long musician who loves to teach and also perform his own music as a singer-songwriter. After earning a music degree at Saint Michael's College in Vermont, he moved out to San Francisco to work with inner city kids through the Boys & Girls Club and pursue his interests in music. He has played electric guitar in a rock/pop band (The Astral Force) and acoustic guitar in a folk duo (Zej & Calen) that have each enjoyed success in the Bay Area.

He remains passionate about teaching and encouraging others to reach their goals. He has been teaching students of all ages for about 10 years and plans to continue as long as he can!

With over 13 years of experience in teaching, performing and recording music for the guitar, Max Rich has traveled through both the United States as well as Europe astonishing audiences with his concerts both as a soloist as well as a studio musician. After completing a Bachelor's degree in Music Performance at California State University Northridge, Max set his sights on a musical conquest of Europe. Well versed in styles ranging from blues, rock, pop, funk, classical, jazz and many more genres, he has established a reputation throughout as a powerful and creative musician. He has earned numerous awards and certificates for his recordings and competition efforts including a Teachers Appreciation Award while on the guitar faculty at the American International School in Vienna, Austria. In 2008 Max was awarded the highest scores in the Cologne Musikhochschule Guitar Competition, Germany. Shortly after recording a very well received album of instrumental music entitled Hesse...

I began playing guitar by ear around age ten. I learned rock songs from records for a few years, and then I began a more serious study of theory in high school. Over the next several years I alternated between pursuing my music degree and playing in bands all over the midwest. In 2004, I transferred from Indiana University to Sonoma State to focus completely on jazz and finish my degree. I have worked with groups and privately, with all ages and skill levels. I am very flexible with the direction of your study and will help you with whatever aspects of your playing you would like to develop.

A Berklee College of Music graduate and a professional music instructor for over ten years, I can help you to reach your musical goals. I tailor lessons to suit your needs covering everything from skill development, music theory and musicianship, to expanding your repertoire and composing original work. I play and teach drums, piano, bass and guitar, performing regularly in the Bay Area at a wide array of venues such as Great American Music Hall, Freight and Salvage, Yerba Buena Center for the Arts, Bimbos, Bottom of the Hill, Savanna Jazz, Amnesia, Ashkenaz, Mystic Theater and Cafe Du Nord. I play many styles of music. Jazz, rock, funk, punk, blue-grass... you name it. I can show you how to play what you want to play.

My Teaching:
I love to teach music to all ages, and have taught hundreds of students in the last 15 years. What you can expect from me is a clear, patient, and understanding teacher who is able to able to meet you where you are on your musical journey, and assist you to expand your knowledge and mastery of the instrument, usually having a lot of fun along the way. I am very comfortable even with teens who know what they want to learn, as well as absolute beginners and kids who need %100 guidance in there practice. I really enjoy students who come to me with some experience and want to learn songs that they love. I enjoy teaching music theory as well as reading, but do not require it.
I am an expert at teaching classic Rock and funk, Jazz Standards, Blues and Pop. From the Chili Peppers, to George Benson, to Taylor Swift etc....

It all started with The Beatles, and a high school band which led the way to going to Berklee College of Music and receiving my Bachelor's Degree in Music there in 2006. Since then I have taught Rock guitar and music theory to children and adults while I was the Music Director at a community center in Boston. I'm currently serving as a MusicianCorps Fellow with the Music National Service. This keeps me very active as I spend 4 days a week teaching music to Middle and High School age students.

Rock is my main thing but also perform Soul, R&B and Bossa Nova. After many years of learning and performing songs, I have realized that learning a song is not enough. You have to give it enough practice and passion so that you can make it your own.

Everything I do, I do for music. It has brought me more joy than words can express and taken me places I could have only reached through its pursuit.

Music is more than a backdrop to our lives. It is a language that describes us in ways words cannot. I also believe that music can be understood by anyone who cares to listen. It is as natural, and complex as our own emotions.

I have been writing, performing and teaching music most of my life. I have always had a strong, natural ear which I can only assume comes from my upbringing with music. Both my parents played guitar and wrote songs. Our house was filled with instruments; guitars, keyboards, dulcimers, percussion, and many others. When I was about five years old I went out to our swing-set in the backyard with a roll of kite string and turned a portion of the monkey bars into a pitched...

Cliff started his musical career as a young boy, taking classical piano lessons from the age of 4 until the age of 12. Discouraged by the strict format of his musical education, he picked up the guitar, and vowed never to take another music lesson. However, upon entering college, Cliff enrolled in drum lessons on a whim, and he has never looked back.

After discovering this new found love for music, Cliff earned not only a degree in English, but also a BA in Music from Santa Clara University, with a concentration in both guitar and drums. While this exposed Cliff to a strong classical background that included piano proficiency, conducting, and sight-singing, he also continued to foster a love for rock, funk, blues, and other popular music. As a result, Cliff has given performances in a variety of contexts -- including jazz, classical, and popular music. Cliff currently plays lead guitar in a San Francisco metal band that is recording an EP to be released later this year....

Devin is a composer/pianist and music instructor based out of San Francisco. He holds a Bachelors degree in Music Composition from the University of the Pacific and a Masters degree in Music Composition from the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and has had works commissioned and performed internationally. He is also an active performer and songwriter, playing piano and guitar in a wide variety of musical ensembles, from jazz trios to indie rock bands.

Devin has over a decade experience in private music instruction in piano, guitar, and composition/theory/songwriting. He has established and maintained a well respected studio of students spanning all ages, musical background, and goals. He has a versatile musical background, and can accordingly offer lessons that are based on the individual students' goals. His genuine passion for the art of music ensures that his students get the most out of the experience.
