From the moment Kat was tall enough to reach the keys she made so much noise on her family’s piano that they eventually bought a kid-sized version to keep in her room. When Kat turned 7 her family got her the best present ever; lessons with an amazing piano teacher.

Kat also began to study flute several years later and soon realized that music was the life for her. She majored in music in both high school and college graduating with a BA in Music from St. Norbert College in DePere, Wisconsin.

Kat has had a very diverse career in music. From a full time private music teacher to the Musical Director of a Burning Man Opera, to the Section Leader for a Youth Orchestra, to the keyboard player in a Theatrical Heavy Metal Band, Kat is always thrilled to stretch her wings and try new things.

I have a BS in music education received at Lehman College, Bronx, NY. I am a professional musician/ composer/ arranger.I received my teaching credentials at SFSU and have been a General music teacher as well as a, band teacher. I have studied trumpet with Classical ( Wilmer Wise)and Jazz musician (Bill Hardman) and big band arranging with Frank Foster( saxophonist and arranger with Count Basie Band). At present I am retired and teaching privately.

I have been teaching music for over 50 years as well as being a professional musician/ composer and arranger. I not only know my fundamentals inside and out, but also I know many tricks of the trade. Having been a performing musician from the age of 10, I have experience in several instruments and almost every genre of music. With a bachelor's degree in flute performance, and most of a master's in the same (to be completed in the next year), my primary focus has been on classical music in flute, with an emphasis in orchestral playing and contemporary music.

I began focusing on singing a few years after flute, to accompany my guitar playing, and began writing songs in the pop/folk genre. I have been singing both solo and with choirs for the last 10 years. The human voice and the flute are remarkably similar in the way the body is used to produce sound, and I use very similar techniques when focusing on breath control and support for both.

Born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, Tim started playing tenor saxophone during his junior year in high school. Despite being a late bloomer, Tim was immediately drawn into the wonders of the jazz idiom after listening to a solo recording by American saxophonist, John Coltrane. Tim started studying under bay area woodwind virtuoso Dann Zinn, who he credits as his biggest influence. In his senior year of high school, Tim was also chosen as a member of the San Jose All-Star Jazz Orchestra led by Naoki Taniguchi. After being accepted into UCLA’s Herb Albert School of Music with a scholarship, Tim relocated to Los Angeles for two years. Recently, Tim won an outstanding soloist award at the Reno Jazz Festival with the UCLA combo. He was also one of the featured soloists of the UCLA Jazz Orchestra that competed at the Monterey Next Generation Jazz Festival. After graduating California Institute of the Arts with a multi-focus on several aspects of music including African dance, Indonesian gamelan, songwriting, recording, classical voice and piano, folk guitar, and more, Liz had the excellent opportunity to teach theater to a local musical theater summer youth program. All summer, she taught class sizes ranging from 10 to 26 students of the ages 5-10. Her initiative later led to being hired at this local community theater. Along with this theater teaching experience, she has been teaching piano and voice lessons for over six years. Her students have gone from knowing nothing about music to learning and performing entire pieces on their own. Music has been a large part of my life since I first started taking piano lessons at the age of six. In fifth grade, I learned to play the flute, and I performed in bands all the way through college. In high school, I also picked up the violin, and enjoyed playing in orchestras as well. I earned my Bachelors degree in Music Education and my California teaching credential from Biola University in Southern California. During that time, I enjoyed playing many other instruments. My primary instruments are the flute, piano, and violin, although I also play (and teach) beginning clarinet, viola, and cello.

In addition to giving private lessons, I also teach school band and orchestra, so I bring the added perspective of a conductor who can help students learn how their part fits in with the whole ensemble. I have taught elementary, middle school, and high school band and orchestra, as well as clinics and small group classes.
