*** Lesson Details ***
Upon meeting a student for the first time, I typically discuss the following details with both the parent and student:
-What is the overall goal for the tutoring sessions? Does the student need daily or weekly sessions to achieve this goal?
-How does the student learn best? Is he/she an auditory, visual, or kinesthetic learner?
-Once I understand the overall goal and the process in which the student learns best, we will create a plan together for moving forward in a clear, manageable fashion
-Before each session begins, I create a list of objectives and a plan to complete them, so it's clear to the student what needs to get accomplished during each meeting.
In this way, everyone involved feels productive and successful!

*** Studio Equipment ***
I have no strict requirements for specific equipment that you must have for our sessions, however, below are a few suggestions:

In-person sessions: It's a good idea to have a work space set up that is away from distraction. Also, have all of your materials ready, so we don't waste any of your tutoring time getting books, paper, etc!

Online sessions: Strong WiFi connection, so you can easily access a Skype session. Also, it's ideal to set up your work space in a quiet setting and be prepared with attachments and exercises opened and/or completed that I've e-mailed to you prior to our session.

*** Specialties ***
While I have experience working with many students in all humanities-related subjects (English, History, Psychology, Women's Studies), I most often work with students who need help learning the writing process. I also spend a lot of time helping students navigate the college admissions process and writing their college admissions essays.

In addition, I spend a lot of time working with students who need help staying on track in their AP courses and prepping for their AP exams. I have a 90% success rate for students who pass their AP exams after working with me.

About Me

I'm a devoted and a passionate teacher, even though I'm teaching a wide variety of subjects my focus is on music and the drum set.

Lessons are generally in a relaxed setting and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals, every lesson is as different as every person. What are your goals? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.

As a teacher, my goal is to provide a positive hands-on experience. I strive to create an environment where learning is enjoyed and explored, teaching in an exciting, fun, and passionate mode. About Me

Hello! Thanks for considering me as your private tutor!

With a Bachelor's degree in Television, Film and New media, and a Minor in Journalism, I have been tutoring students for the past four years.

English and writing are my specialties. Dedication, commitment and a passion for seeing my peers succeed are a few qualities that set me apart from any other private tutor. It's my desire to see you grow by inspiring you to do your best.

Results matter. I like to focus on the immediate results. Taking lessons with me is a process that involves finding the right learning methods for the student.

A few things that I consider with my students: Are you an auditory learner? Are you a visual learner? Are you a kinesthetic learner? Or, are you a little bit of any combination of the three?

What to expect:

I prefer to travel to the student's home, or meet at a school or library. It's a good idea to avoid distractions as much as possible. I believe learning takes a step-by-step process and it's my professional view that you'll see the most growth and progress after about 18-24 hours of private instruction (I suggest a one-hour lessons twice a week).

I also teach lessons online! Lessons online are just as, if not more, beneficial for my students. It's convenient, and you can take your lesson-plan on the go.

According to The New York Times, "A recent 93-page report on online education, conducted by SRI International for the Department of Education, has a starchy academic title, but a most intriguing conclusion: 'On average, students in online learning conditions performed better than those receiving face-to-face instruction.'"

I like to keep my online learners engaged and use Skype, Scribblar and Google Docs to keep my students on track.

Let me help you! You can book your lessons and contact a TakeLesson student counselor to set up your schedule.

I will get in touch with my new students within 48 hours of scheduling. And remember, if you don't think things are working out, your lessons are fully refundable after your first lesson with me!

"It is the supreme art of the teacher to awaken joy in creative expression and knowledge." - Albert Einstein

Subjects Taught

Algebra, Algebra 1, Algebra 2, Analytical Geometry, AP Calculus, AP Chemistry, AP Physics, AP Statistics, Basic Math, Calculus, Chemistry, Computer Programming, C Programming, Discrete Math, Electrical Engineering, Electronics, Elementary Math, Engineering, Geometry, Java, Linear Algebra, Linux, Math, Physical Science, Physics, Pre Algebra, Pre Calculus, Python, Science, SQL, Statistics, Study Skills, Test Prep, Trigonometry

About Me

I am a senior at UCSD studying Electrical and Computer Engineering, with a depth in Machine Learning. I have one more quarter until graduation, and am currently in the process of interviewing for a software engineering position at Google.

I've been teaching for most of my life. As far back as I can remember, I've always been helping my friends and classmates with homework, and teaching what I learn to whoever will listen.

After high school, I spent 5 years in the military. I was trained as a radar technician, and I also spent 1 year teaching marksmanship. While in electronics and radar school, I finished each section at the top of my class, and received awards for acting as a peer tutor during that time.

After finishing my military service in 2009, I started college full time. I also started taking private music lessons (guitar and voice). At various times in between terms at school and technical internships, I've tutored math and science, and even taught a few guitar lessons.

While at UCSD, I also volunteered to organize and teach several workshops on how to build a distortion pedal (electric guitar effect) from basic electronic components.

In all of my teaching experiences, from math and science to electronics, to marksmanship, to music, I've thoroughly enjoyed helping others grasp new material.

I believe that teaching should be very interactive. When introducing new material, I like to move slowly at first to develop a thorough and intuitive understanding of concepts and ideas. The mechanics of solving problems becomes much easier to understand and remember after an intuition has been developed. This intuition also helps to verify that a solution makes sense.

After a thorough understanding is in place, I like to help students develop their own memory aids so that material can be quickly recalled during tests.

If a tutoring session is going well, you will not watch me do much math at all - I will be watching you solve problems, and providing guidance, support, and verification as necessary. This helps prevent the common phenomenon by which a student seems to understand material while it's being presented, but then struggles to solve problems independently.

More than anything, I try to make the material interesting and fun, and to keep stress at a minimum.

Subjects I tutor:
High school level and below: all math, physics, and chemistry.

College level math:
-Algebra, Trigonometry, Geometry, PreCalculus
-Calculus I, II, III, Vector Calculus, Differential Equations, Linear Algebra
-Discrete Math, Probability and Statistics

College level science:
-General Chemistry
-Physics: Mechanics, Electricity and Magnetism

Electrical Engineering:
-Digital and Analog Circuit Theory
-Fourier Transforms, Time/Frequency Domain Analysis

Computer Science:
-Java, C Programming Languages
-Algorithms and Data Structures

I own textbooks for most of the math and science courses that I tutor, but it helps if the student brings his or her textbook, a syllabus, and any other relevant course material, as some classes and professors cover slightly different material, and textbooks may use different notation and conventions.

I may be able to help with various other related subjects, so if you don't see your exact subject here, or have any questions before starting, just ask.

I look forward to learning with you!
