Hi there! My name is Chris and I've been playing music my entire life and I believe that with the right attitude and environment anyone can achieve musical greatness!
I was born into a musical family and have studied classical piano since I was 4 years old! I am very well versed in music theory and proper technique as well as a great knowledge of great classical Pieces for any skill level.
As a young teenager I grew rebellious and learned how to play the guitar and have since sought teachers outside my family to learn modern styles and 5 other instruments!! I have also worked toward a music degree and have made music the center of my life.
Classical music is not everyone's passion but a good practice routine, attitude, and environment is always a good thing to have as these things are important regardless of your favorite music.
Piano, Violin, Cello, Fiddle, Viola
My name is Erin. I am a graduate of the University of North Carolina at Charlotte. I have a Bachelor of Arts in Music, with a concentration in Violin. I began studying violin at the age of six. I have performed with small chamber ensembles, orchestras, quartets, and trios. I enjoy playing for churches and weddings, and love teaching.
I began teaching beginner to advanced Violin and Viola in April of 2001 in NC. I moved to California in the fall of 2008. Since moving to California I have extended my teaching to beginner Piano and Cello also. I have taught students ages 3 to 87 how to play and enjoy music on a personal level. My experience includes leading sectionals for middle school orchestra, organizing and instructing small ensembles, and organizing student recitals. Student recitals I arranged once or twice a year to showcase the students' growth and abilities, and to provide an opportunity to give back to family and friends whose sacrifices and support enable the students to succeed.
I teach because I love music and I believe God has given me a gift. Playing and teaching help me to use my talent for His glory. I love working with people and I love how music enables people of all ages to open up and express themselves in a positive way, no matter what life throws their way. I believe music teaches discipline, builds self esteem; helps set and achieve goals; and positively affects and enhances other curricular endeavors.
My teaching philosophy is to always have fun while learning, to set attainable goals for the student, to learn through encouragement and discipline, and to help students come to love music on a personal level. I focus on the character of each student and their goals and desires to see that the student and/or parents are satisfied. Teaching is a privilege for me that I do not take for granted.
I love to teach the violin and fiddle. I really enjoy working with adult beginners to help them discover music. You are never too old to learn! My specialty is working with young children and youth to establish a wonderful foundation for the student. I work to incorporate, into the lessons, a strong sense of musicianship with both the violin and fiddle. I am a structured teacher, one that is helpful, friendly and fun to work with. In working with young children, I encourage the parent to be involved with the lessons...to partnership, so that the child will progress and have an enjoyable experience. I use a modern approach in selecting books for each student.. books that inspire and encourage the student at his/her skill level and age. Having taught several instruments during the past 15 years...I understand the importance of passing on musical knowledge to brave beginners who are starting out on a musical journey. . Music lessons can be a wonderful "corner stone" to help build confidence, explore new beginnings and to learn a musical instrument. Lesson are but a series of building blocks that bring joy and confidence to the young and old. Believe in music for life! Come take lessons and we will explore a musical journey together on the violin.
In the past 10 years, I have taught violin and fiddle privately at my home studio and at various music camps, festivals, violin workshops and classrooms around the US. I continue to take private, classical violin lessons and go to music education seminars and workshops. In addition, for the past 20 years, I've attend music camps and week long workshops around the US. These camps, workshops and festivals focus on the various fiddle traditions such as Old-Time (Southern) Appalachian, Scandinavian and Bluegrass and on classical violin playing and teaching. . I play in a community strings orchestras on a weekly basis for the past 8 years with a classical repertoire. I also continue to take private fiddle lesson with a classically trained violinist who is a professional fiddler. I'm continually learning so that I can pass information on to my students. Come "fiddle" with me and learn this exciting instrument.
I am now retired from nursing having spent 30 years in the nursing education field.
I would enjoy working with you or your child to help you or the child discover the joys of music making tailored to your goals with the violin or the fiddle. Besides teaching, I'm involved with my husbands business, Bobs Violins and Bows. We restore, setup, rent and make violins. We also repair and rehair. bows and sell new and vintage restored bows. Our shop helps students as well as professional players. If you decide on lessons please get in touch with us BEFORE you rent or purchase an instrument for the student. My husband is a professional Luthier. We recommend renting an instrument instead of purchasing one to make sure the student wants to continue to play and learn. For children: Violins come in fractional sizes and the child needs to be measured correctly to ensure a proper size. If you sign up for lessons with me, contact us first before you purchase an instrument so that we can measure the student for the proper size. Learning to play on an instrument that is professionally setup and of the correct size will help the new student progress and they will have an enjoyable experience. Playing on a violin that is too big for a child can lead to injury or frustration for the student and parent.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
