CA Standard Credential from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. I have been tutoring and teaching students for many years. My goal is to reduce anxiety in learning a subject and to give students the tools and knowledge they need to study on their own.
Most of my students are tutored in math. Usually my students suffer from math anxiety. They believe that they are bad in math. I help them to use previous knowledge to build on the current material. By the end of the sessions, they feel good about themselves and their math abilities.
I also have a Certificate in College Counseling from UCLA. I help students prepare for college/career from grade 9 through grade 12. I help with standardized tests, entrance tests, college applications and federal funding.

Lessons are generally in a relaxed setting and designed to work towards accomplishing student determined goals. While all students will study similar fundamentals regarding technique, theory, feel and performance, every lesson is as different as every person. What are your goals? I'll tell you what you need to do to get there, and help you take the steps to achieve your aspirations.
As a teacher, my goal is to provide a positive hands-on experience. I strive to create an environment where learning is enjoyed and explored, teaching in an exciting, fun, and passionate mode. I am not strict, and have a strong sense of humor - although I do expect the students to practice. I have an extremely optimistic, energetic disposition and use positive reinforcement to encourage my students! This has always served me very well in working with students. Give it a try, you won't be disappointed!

Thank you for your time and interest! I have a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Berkeley and have been a full-time tutor since I graduated from college in 2009. The reason why I have been lucky enough to have been able to work full-time as tutor is that I retain my clients. I work with both high school and college level students.
Since I have a degree in math, I can tutor higher level mathematics courses, like Calculus I, II, II, business Calculus, Linear Algebra, and Differential Equations. You will not find me getting stuck on problems very often. And since I've been tutoring for so long, I have the experience necessary to communicate the concepts effectively. I also tutor other mathematics courses, like Pre-algebra, Algebra I & II, Geometry, and Pre-Cauclus.
My first experience tutoring was at Palomar College in 2006, while I was a student there. I was recruited by one of my professors to work for the school. My tutoring work at Palomar gave me a lot of experience tutoring students studying a variety of topics at a wide range of skill levels. I worked there until I transferred to Berkeley in 2007. After I graduated from Berkeley I immediately began tutoring again, but as a private in-home tutor. I passed the CSET mathematics subtest I & II in May 2010.
My teaching philosophy is simple. Students need to spend time learning their subject, and they need to workout their own homework problems. The tutor's job is to explain the material, do examples, and find holes in students' understanding. Mastery of a subject takes time and hard work. I help students by creating focus, which helps them use their study time efficiently, and by finding errors in students' work which helps stop bad habits from forming. I work with the students' own class material at their own pace. I watch the students work problems and see how they react to instruction and adjust my tutoring style accordingly.

Originally from Washington State, where I resided throughout my college career, I currently live in San Diego. Over the course of my tutoring career I have had the opportunity to interact with a wide range of age groups, from teaching elementary students the fundamentals of tennis to leading tutoring sessions for university physics students. Having participated in 14 years of team athletics, during six of which I served as team captain, as well as various academic internships, I have gained experience in multiple types of academic advancement as well as community involvement and leadership.
I work well with students of all capabilities and learning styles, recognizing the importance of identifying with students in order to meet their individual needs. I strive to play to students' strengths, individualizing my teaching strategies based on the student's preferred mode of learning and utilizing engaging methods in order to keep the learner motivated. Doing my best to foster an atmosphere of energy and positivity in order to develop a genuine love of learning, I teach according to the philosophy that a well-rounded education cannot simply be obtained through books, classrooms, and academics. It is something that must be actively practiced and experienced.

I have provided private lessons to children in elementary and middle school on subjects ranging from math, reading, to soccer since April 2011. The last two and a half years I have been coaching soccer at the local YMCA to children ages 3-12. And for the last year and a half I have worked for a before and after school care program. I also have some experience working with children who have special needs.
Personally, I am a junior at UCSD studying bio-engineering. I have always excelled in math and sciences and have experience tutoring most subjects through high school.
