About Me

My training started when I was very young, age 7, with piano lessons. Since then, I have been playing music my whole life, and I love it! I received my Bachelor's in Music Performance 2001, and will receive a Master's in Music Education in 2016. I am currently looking to start my private studio for ages 5 - 75, all string instruments!
I specialize in teaching violin, viola, and cello.

For the very young student, ages 5 -7, violin only, and I would love to get more of the little ones interested in music! The lessons are also a great "mommy and me" time lesson format, a great way to spend time with your child! I have found lots of success with this age group, by using a curriculum that I have developed which is based on the Suzuki method mixed in with classical training and fiddle training. Although I am not Suzuki certified, I use concepts and materials taken from this master teacher. From studying his philosophy and principals through research, I have found the Suzuki method as a very holistic and "easy-to-understand" teaching method for young ages.

For adult students, I have found success in teaching with a curriculum that just lets you play music and develop a love for your instrument. I mainly teach adults using lots of music from pop tunes, holiday music, fiddle and Americana music. My curriculum for adults is more about making music and less about playing scales and etudes, although focus on technique is integrated within the type of music books we use.

I also teach middle school and elementary school students.
Students excel at a very high level with my training. This group will be asked to study music in the classical training method with scales, etudes, and standard classical repertoire, and help with their school orchestra music. Please inquire about training for this age group in person.

*** Lesson Details ***
Beginner lessons are great fun! Watch how the instrument turns into clay that molds to your hand, your musical talent. I love to see the amazement in the student when they realize playing the violin is not as difficult as it might look. Each subsequent lesson is a building process, building upon the foundation of the previous lesson. It is imperative that students practice! Practice whenever you get a chance, even a little bit goes a long way. Pick up the violin for ten minutes while you wait for the meal to cook in the evening or waiting for the laundry to finish. Then, find some time to sit quietly in a comfortable space and focus just on the tone and quality of your playing.

*** Studio Equipment ***
My home studio.

*** Specialties ***
I also hold a yearly spring recital to allow my students to perform, all ages included. This is always great fun and very rewarding! Plus, I'm really excited about my adult students, who are "up and coming" artists! I'm looking to start an adult ensemble for a separate recital to showcase their hard work and enjoyment of playing for the sake of playing a musical instrument! Please inquire about the adult group, even if you have just a little bit of interest in learning the fantastic violin, viola, or cello! It is great fun!

About Me

At the end of the Summer 2014, I will be a college sophomore pursuing a major in Business Management and a minor in Music.

Ever since I was 4 years old (15 years now), I have been practicing, preforming, and practicing piano, violin, and music theory. Twice a week I have had the privilege of taking piano and violin lessons from skilled teachers who strive to provide me with the best guidance with music. I have been having a blast teaching piano, violin, and theory to students from ages 4-74 since 2009. Over the course of teaching, I have had around 30 students come and go. No matter what stage of life you are in, you can always benefit from learning music and surrounding yourself around music.

I am very passionate about the great art of writing and reading. I believe every student needs a strong foundation in the English language. What do communicating people on a casual level, writing very important letters, and giving opening speeches at Galas have in common? They all require a vast understanding of language. In high school I the president of our local speech and debate team, making it to nationals every year in the debate and speech events I competed in during the years. As a result, I have had ample opportunity to face public speaking in every day life and in a competition setting. I love everything about the English language and hope to pass what I have learned.
