I have been playing music for 17 years, beginning on piano at age 4. Since then, I have learned the saxophone, guitar, drums, and bass, as well as cultivated a deep understanding of music theory. In the past few years, bass/bass guitar has become my primary instrument. Learning and playing music has enriched my life greatly, and I believe that can be true for you as well.

I have been performing since a young age, and have participated in multiple performing groups over the years. Currently, I am the bassist for The Hot Club of Zion (jazz) and bassist/songwriter for the Merchant Royal (rock).

I am currently attending the University of Utah and am in the process of completing a Bachelor's of Music in Jazz Performance (Bass). This program has greatly expanded my knowledge of music theory, history, and composition. It has also provided me with the opportunity to work with some of the best musicians in Utah,

I began playing music at the age of six. I started with the piano and saxophone but found my true passion, by age eight, in the guitar. I took private lessons from a great teacher for the first seven consecutive years of my study and further developed my knowledge and skills through self-directed study. I received my Undergraduate degree in Music Theory from the University of Utah. The pursuit of this degree allowed me to study many different musical aspects, including: composition, music history, ear training, sight reading and music technology, along with classical and jazz guitar studies. Over the years, through my education and practice, I have learned a great deal, not just about the guitar, but also ways to teach music and engage students in their pursuit of musical knowledge.

I have been involved in music since early childhood, and started playing guitar in my teens. Today guitar is my primary instrument. I can help you play a variety of styles, including but not limited to, Rock of all types, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Fingerstyle, Chord Melody and New Age music. Both electric and acoustic guitar, as well as bass guitar lessons are offered. I have been giving private guitar lessons since 1988 and have performed in numerous rock and blues bands since that time as well.

Currently my live performing act is solo instrumental acoustic guitar in a new age jazz style. Since I am a also a professional performing musician I am able to offer help, insights and assistance in many areas.

Tom has over 30 years of playing experience and has been teaching private guitar lessons in Riverton since 2005. Though highly influenced by the hard rock of the 1980s Tom has also studied jazz and blues, and even did some classical piano in college. Tom has written and recorded numerous songs, performing many of these tunes with his Los Angeles based band "Tom Slikk" in the late 1980s. Influences include: Yngwie Malmsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert King.
