Piano, Singing, Broadway Singing, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Songwriting
Hi! My name is Angela, and I teach private piano, voice, and theory lessons. I have a Bachelor’s degree in Music Education from Lindenwood University, a Master's degree in Music Theory from Washington University, and am certified to teach music to all levels in the state of Missouri. I love teaching, and have taught many ages (4 to 91) and ability levels (novice to advanced). I am a dependable, knowledgeable, and enthusiastic teacher. I offer piano and voice lessons for 30, 45, or 60-minute weekly sessions in my music studio. I do not offer bi-weekly lessons or lessons in the student's home.
I started playing piano at age seven when my mother enrolled me in lessons. I have been playing ever since, and I absolutely love it. I began teaching private piano lessons in 2003, and have taught many thousands of lessons since that time. I have experience accompanying choirs, instrumentalists, and vocalists, as well as playing as a soloist in various piano competitions and recitals. I recently began taking lessons in jazz piano, a genre I never learned much about. I believe it is never too late to learn something new, and I am excited to start this new chapter of my musical life and to use this new knowledge to enhance my own teaching.
My love of singing began in my freshman year of high school, when I joined the choir. It was a life-changing experience, and inspired me to make music my career. I immediately began taking private voice lessons, and became a voice teacher myself by 2005. While in college, I was presented with many opportunities to learn and grow, both as a musician and as a teacher. I sang in several different collegiate choirs, and was nominated to be in the all-collegiate choir in 2007. I also passed yearly auditions to sing in Voices Only, Lindenwood’s most advanced vocal group. During my junior and senior years at Lindenwood, I worked as the assistant director of Voices Only. This was a wonderful opportunity, and I learned so much while leading warm-ups every day, running sectionals on a weekly basis, directing the group during rehearsals and even during performances when the director was away. I currently sing in the Saint Louis Harmony Chorus, one of the top 25 women's barbershop choruses in the world. I am on the music faculty of the chorus, and am also the baritone section leader. I also sing in an award-winning barbershop quartet called Executive Sweets.
My name is James, and I love music. Music is my "aeroplane". It's the window to my world. Everything I do involves music: learning it, playing it, listening to it, creating it, studying it. I think it is safe to say that music is my life's passion. If you have a passion for music, or even just a curiosity, I'd love to be the one to help you explore the magical world of music!
I've been playing for about 20 years now, and I've had almost every experience that one can have playing the piano: playing at a high competition level, public performances, both solo and ensemble, lots of private instruction. My personal training is in classical piano, however I believe that all genres possess the potential to be an instrument of learning and enjoyment, AT THE SAME TIME! And I'd love to show you how!
Recently, I completed my sophomore leve classes at a local college studying music under a wonderful and passionate professor. This experience has only helped to solidify my love of musical arts. During my freshman year of studies, I was awarded Music Student of the Year (2008-2009) by the head of the music department on my campus. And I have completed my associate level music requirements at the end of spring term 2010. Ever since, I have been building my student base and honing my teaching skills.
Piano, English, Music Performance
Having years of experience teaching students from the ages of 5 to the age of 45, I am well-prepared to teach you any aspect of the piano you would like to know. I have been heavily involved in music for 25 years and have been awarded music scholarships, won contests, participated in chamber groups, and accompanied instrumentalists and singers.
My teaching style is very low-key and relaxed. I create a "mistake friendly environment," and firmly believe that the only way to learn is to make mistakes. I will motivate you to practice, but I also understand that schedules can be hectic, and it's not always possible. Regular practice is the quickest way to learn an instrument, but learning can be attained during lessons even without practice.
Whether your goal is to learn how to play Bach, Alicia Keys, or tunes from Broadway, I can help you get the technique you need to play the music you love.
I also have professional experience as a writing tutor, proofreader, and editor, and would be happy to help you with your writing. I hold a master of arts degree in English, and am currently attending school at Washington University, where standards are high. I'm happy to use my knowledge to help you reach your goals.
"Steven is very professional and extremely helpful. He always has a smile on and is serious about helping you phrase the music. I would highly recommend him to anyone."
"It's been really exciting so far! Jordan has been so helpful, so knowledgeable. I could not have found a better instructor and I'm getting better and better every day."
"My daughter's wedding was weeks away and I had never been able to dance a step. With Jenny's help, I came further than ever before in such short time in any subject."
