As a life-long singer and lover of music, Jenny looks forward to sharing her experience with you. She spent most of her high school and college years in music classrooms and on stages in concerts and numerous musical theatre productions, including Best of Broadway and other Sacramento-area theatres. One of her greatest experiences was studying voice and singing in the American River College Chamber Singers, directed by Perla Warren.
Jenny studied voice with international opera tenor, Joseph Frank, at San Jose State University. She sang with the SJSU Concert Choir and Choraliers, directed by Dr. Charlene Archibeque, graduating Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor's Degree in Vocal Performance in 1995. She has also been a credentialed music teacher since 1997 and has taught all ages and grade levels, including concert, chamber and jazz choirs, music theory, music appreciation, and elementary general music. She has also been a private voice and piano teacher for more than 20 years.
Jenny is a founding member of The Choral Project, directed by Daniel Hughes, and is currently the soprano section leader of the Sacramento Master Singers, directed by Dr. Ralph Hughes. She also directs the choir at Christ the King Lutheran Church and performs regionally as a soloist. She is passionate about musical theatre and has recently worked as a vocal director with Christian Youth Theatre and Stage Right Productions.
Jenny especially enjoys working with singers to help build confidence as soloists, theatre performers and choir/chorus members. She is also a member of the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS) and works to stay current on issues surrounding vocal health and success. She also enjoys helping singers and pianists work on musicianship and performance skills.

I have been teaching voice, guitar and piano to students of all ages and levels for over 5 years now. I graduated Summa Cum Laude from Berklee College of Music with a BA in Songwriting and Vocal Studies. I teach mostly contemporary musical styles such as Pop/Rock/Country/R&B, but I have also trained and coached many students interested in pursuing musical theater and classical styles as well. I have performed live in countless venues in many cities both as a solo artist, and with a band as a side-woman. I like to emphasize performance skills as well as the basic techniques. I also have a lot of experience in the recording studio, and I relate that to any student interested in recording. As a songwriter, I have co-written with a few of my students and coached them on song structure, melody, etc. I also incorporate as much basic music theory as I can with my students and their instruments, in order that they may understand the language of music better. Overall, I try to cater to the individual needs of each and every one of my students -- and have fun!!
Singing, Opera Voice
I recently received my BA in music from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo. While the school is not well known for music, the program stressed being as well rounded in as possible with a "Learn by doing" attitude permeating every class. I believe that this attitude is essential to all musicians, regardless of what style they are interested in. No matter if you wish to sing pop or opera, the basics are the same. I emphasize singing in a healthy manner and taking care of your voice. I also believe that most people are capable of singing well.
I have been involved in several Opera scene performances, most notably performing the role of Lucia in the Mad Scene from "Lucia di Lammermoor" and the Marschallin in the finale of "Der Rosenkavalier." With this background, I can help my students learn how to sing in other languages as well as help them with performance practice, proper posture, basic music reading, and giving them access to resources for more learning opportunities.
I prefer to teach beginning to intermediate students. My ultimate goal is to help my students love music as much as I do and to find the voice that is hidden in them.
Singing, Violin, Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice
I grew up in a household of 9 where music was always center stage. We would sing as a family in different venues and were often called the VonTrapp family. I have enjoyed singing and performing from a young age. I began studying flute at age 8, after scoring highest in the harmony listening exam and began formal violin lessons at the age of 9. I studied all genres including, fiddle, classical, musical theater and 20th century. I have continued to study violin since then and have performed in many orchestras and small groups, such as Honor Orchestra, the Paradise Symphony, the Yuba College Orchestra, Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society Orchestra and more. I have been concert master and first stand in many of these. I have also soloed in many and have been the first violinist in quartets for countless weddings and other events. I have also played in numerous pit orchestras for musicals.
I have been in choirs and soloing since I can remember. I have performed and soloed in choirs such as the Yuba-Sutter Oratorio Society, CSUS Chamber Choir, the CSUS Women's Choir and more. I have toured to Victoria, Montreal, Ottowa, Oregon and Washington. I have also been in opera productions such as The Magic Flute, Peleas and Melisande and Die Fledermaus (The Bat) with CSUS Opera. I am a recent recipient of the Saturday Club Scholarship, a prestigious award, and have won many competitions (some repeatedly) both vocally and with violin, such as the Tri-County Competition, Young Artist Competitions, and the California Soloist and Ensemble Competitions. Additionally, I have performed musical theater repertoire and have performed as lead in musicals such as Beauty and the Beast and Into the Woods. I have also soloed with the Yuba College jazz band.
I have earned my Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance from CSU Sacramento. I have my Associates Degrees in both Music and Early Childhood Education from Yuba College.Additionally, I have obtained my certificate of completion of training from Music Together, an organization which trains teachers to teach Basic Music Competence (both in tonality and rhythm), and am currently teaching this curriculum.
I have been teaching music privately for ten years to all ages, genders and abilities. Additionally, I have taught ages 0-5 years in a preschool setting for 5 years and am extremely familiar with developmentally appropriate practices, as I am site supervisor qualified. I also have experience teaching parent child classes and am familiar with how to teach to the particular needs of each family and student.
I'm extremely excited and looking forward to growing as a professional, both teaching and performing, in both the areas of violin and voice; I can't wait to share my passion with you and to ignite your passion for music too.
