Bass Guitar, Guitar, Flute, Music Recording, Music Theory, Songwriting
I have been a working musician and occasional private music teacher for over 40 years. During that time I had a career in the professional audio and video industry, during which I learned how to successfully deal with people. I recently returned to school and completed a Bachelor of Music in Music Education degree at CSU Sacramento. My goal is to bring excitement and enthusiasm for music and playing an instrument to my students, and to create musicians who will make and enjoy music throughout their lives. I play guitar, bass guitar and flute, and enjoy teaching all of them to all age groups.
Violin, Flute, Music Performance, Music Theory
I've played flute since the day I fell in love with it. When I was a little girl I saw the flute for the first time and wanted to play it ever since. I had a rough start in learning how to play the flute but over the past 13 years I've developed enough skill to be an advanced musician.
When I first started I had private tutors to teach me how to play. Then I played in elementary, middle, and high school concert band. At Sacramento State, I've performed with the Symphonic Wind Ensemble, Marching Band, Concert Band, and Symphony Orchestra.
I'm currently an undergraduate student at Sacramento State majoring in Music Education & Performance in flute. This is my fourth year and I've already learned much about many instruments other than the flute. I've learned to play piano, trumpet, violin, cello, and most of the other instrument families. The cello was especially fun to learn because I love the deep rich sound it creates.
As a teacher, I've had two years of experience with people of different ages but I like teaching younger children the best. I believe in giving children the chance to enjoy and love music to the fullest while still learning the proper way to play beautifully. Every student is different so I patiently work at everyone's various paces. And if some students have more difficulty with the instrument than other students, then I'll go as slowly as they need in order for them to understand the first step before moving on to the next. My hope is that every person can experience music to the fullest.

Samantha A. graduated from CSU, Sacramento in 2010 with 2 Bachelor of Music degrees, in Music Theory and Piano Performance. She was elected the Outstanding Graduating Senior of the music department by the faculty.
Samantha has worked as a music teacher and performer for more than 10 years. Her experience is varied and extensive, ranging from vocal directing musicals in theatres (including El Dorado Music Theatre and Sacramento Theatre Company), accompanying for instrumentalists, vocalists and choirs, as well as playing in rock bands.
While her teaching style is fun and energetic, Samantha is a strict teacher and expects her students to practice regularly and come to lessons prepared. She is aware that every student will have different goals and she will work hard to accommodate her style to fit what each individual student needs. Performing regularly is an important part of becoming a musician and Samantha has many resources to allow for frequent student performances and recitals.
You will not find many teachers with the versatility and knowledge that Samantha can offer. On any given day, she can be found teaching in the classroom in the morning, rehearsing with a choir in the afternoon, and playing funk music in a club at night. She is extremely passionate about music and will help any student become the best musician they can be!
