John was born and raised near Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He began playing the guitar and composing music at the age of twelve. From 2002 to 2004, John attended Indiana University of Pennsylvania where he studied classical guitar performance and became the guitarist for the University Jazz Ensemble. John transferred to Berklee College of Music in the fall of 2004. At Berklee, he performed in guitar quartets and quintets and majored in Composition. He will receive his Bachelor's Degree in May of 2011.

From the moment my fingers touched the keys, my passion for the piano never ceased. Starting as a self-taught player, I received formal training in the instrument at the University of California, Davis under the instruction of Marilyn Swan. There I played in several chamber ensembles, including a performance of Schubert's Trout Quintet. I have also accompanied recitals for fellow musicians of various instruments, including a double bass and a cello. I have also had the opportunity to work with American Bach Soloists director Jeffrey Thomas who conducted the UC Davis Symphony Orchestra in conjunction with the University chorus where I played both piano and celesta parts. I have been a piano teacher for over 35 years (17 years here in Gold River). I wasn't planning on being a teacher but one day I was playing "The Entertainer" with a window open and a neighbor came over and asked if I could teach him to play like that. I started him on lessons, he told a friend who signed her kids up, and the rest is history! I've had a full load since then and it has been a blast! I studied piano lessons for 8 years with a music conservatory teacher, and another 2 years with the Sac State Professor. I work in an elementary school doing non-directive play with at-risk students.
