Over my 20 years of teaching , I have had Guitar, Bass and Mandolin students go on to continue their musical education at Berklee, then on to careers in music both in performance and production, as well as preparing students to go on to Julliard and MI and NEC. My goal as a teacher is always to help my students achieve their personal musical goals as directly and constructively as possible.
I am an honors graduate from Berklee College of Music, and have taught all ages of students privately and students at Emerson College.

Hello, my name is Michael. I have been teaching lessons almost as long as I have been playing guitar. I started off a Rocker to the core, but my taste widened to encompass music as a whole. I love Blues, Country, Jazz, Folk, Classical, Fusion, and everything in-between. I have also been educated in theory at Berklee college of music, and teach students theory, as well as techniques in many different stiles. I have played many different shows, for audiences as large as 10,000. I have also studied with the Shredlord himself, Joe Stump. I have an engaging, and informative curriculum, and I always make my lessons fun.

I've been playing the guitar for twenty-six years now, and I've been working as a guitar teacher for the last twenty years. I've been making a living as a guitar teacher in the Boston area for fourteen years now, and I teach in two locations - Brighton and Dedham. Prior to that I also taught at Guitar Attention Center in Springfield, Ohio while I was in college, where I graduated with honors at Wright State University with a Bachelor's Degree in Mass Communications.
I've also played in a variety of original and cover bands, and have written a number of songs of my own. I'm working on recording these as instrumentals in my home studio.
I also play in a rock cover band called Element 78. We play out every weekend, and even on some Sundays. The singer and I have also started doing some acoustic shows on Sundays and Thursdays as well.

I have been working with students of all ages for the past six years as a private and group lesson instructor, bandleader and clinician. At a summer camp in New York I would regularly have kids from other sections sitting in on my classes because of the creative and exciting learning environment that I create.

As a graduate of Berklee College of Music I have experienced every genre and teaching method. As a result I can shape my curriculum to the student's personal interests and preferred learning style. During lessons I take a solid foundation of music theory and technical practice and place it in context to modern musical examples, allowing students to understand the material on their own terms. I am patient, animated and I love what I do!

When I was 10 years old, I had my first guitar lesson. I liked my teacher so much that I continued taking lessons with him until I went to college at Northeastern University in 2005. Now I hope to inspire other young musicians as I pursue my dream of success in the music industry.

I have been studying and performing music since the age of 8. My experience includes bass guitar, piano (both being my primary instruments), trombone, and guitar; genres include jazz, praise and worship, country, rock, classical, ragtime, and funk. I am currently a student at Berklee College of Music pursuing a degree in Music Education. Locally I play in two original bands, Congress and Old English. Through my academic knowledge and my real world performance on stage I am able to provide a well rounded learning environment.

I have been playing music my entire life. When I was seven, I began taking piano lessons. At age ten I began playing trumpet in the marching band. It was on these instruments that I gained my knowledge for basic music theory and structure.
When I was fourteen years old I began playing guitar. I began taking theory classes through the music department in my high school and played in the jazz band for fun. By the time I graduated high school I was an intermediate guitarist with a firm grip on theory, structure, and composition.

While attending Umass Amherst I furthered my musical education by enrolling in a number of classes in the music department while earning a degree in Plant & Soil sciences. I'm a former teacher in the public schools in Boston. I raised 3 kids by myself so I have a lot of patience. I started a lot of bands in my day and I also know recording methods. In addition, I also dabble in other instruments like bass guitar and drums/congas.

I started my musical training playing classical piano when I was six years old. From there I studied Classical/Romantic Piano until I was seventeen. Since I was brought up listening to my Dad's Beatles albums and I became more and more interested in rock music as I grew up. In high school, I began learning guitar so that I could become a more versatile musician and to be able to play anywhere. Before I graduated high school, I completed a course on Music Technology and AP Music Theory and I knew that I wanted to continue my music studies in College. I acquired my Bachelor of Science degree in Music Technology at Northeastern University, with a minor in Music Industry. During my time in College I had worked in a professional recording studio, studied piano/ guitar/voice, and composed numerous instrumental and acousmatic works.

I am one of those individuals for whom teaching is just something that I have to do. I started giving music lessons sometime in the 80’s and have loved working with all levels of skill and experience. My students say that I am patient, adaptive and encouraging, committed to making music fun.

I have a Masters of Music from New England Conservatory in Jazz Piano and am comfortable and fluent in a number of musical styles, including pop, rock, gospel, traditional hymnody, jazz, and R&B. Although I love and study classical music, it is not something I teach at this point.

In addition to private lessons and performing, I do music transcription, workshops, and all forms of vocal and instrumental arranging. Having served as a church musician for more than 30 years, I currently co-lead the worship team at Life Church in Boston with my wife. I've been a full time professional musician for 13+ years and have toured all over the world performing with music icons like Chacka Khan, Beyonce, and many more. I have a lot of experience with many different styles of music and I love sharing this gift with anyone who's interested. My teaching philosophy is simple: Get students playing music! It's much easier to understand the nuts and bolts of music when put into the context of the music you like.

I have been playing the bass guitar and guitar for about fifteen years, where I have specialized in Funk, Funk-Rock, Alternative Rock, and Reggae. The bass guitar is my primary instrument, as I currently play in a Funk-Rock group that has performance experience in New Orleans and Boston.
