I have played bass professionally, with various bands, and can teach many styles, including, rock, pop, jazz, and blues.
I treat each student as an individual, and vary my teaching methods to meet the needs, learning styles and preferences of the student.
*** Travel Equipment *** I do not typically provide any equipment - but I am willing to select and purchase books for the students to learn from (cost of books to be reimbursed by the student/parent) when requested to do so. I am also willing to provide stick-on note-names for the keyboard, for young children. The students must have their own instruments, music stand, paper and pencil, and provide a folder for sheet music and notes/instructions. *** Specialties *** On guitar, I specialize in the following styles: jazz, rock, blues, folk, bluegrass, and children's songs. Piano: I prefer electronic keyboard to acoustic piano, but am happy to teach beginning students on a regular piano as well. I teach note-reading, playing by ear, and theory. When using an electronic keyboard, I
I have a solid grasp on the fundamentals of bass guitar, and can help you acquire the ability to play bass for most songs.
I studied classical guitar and composition at Asbury College and later more in depth guitar studies rock, jazz, and classical at the Atlanta Institute of Music. I have been teaching steadily for the past ten years as well as spending my time with various other musical projects such as leading worship for my church, performing for various parties and weddings, and composing and recording music for a short film. I use my experience and broad understanding of music to inform the way that I teach, so that my students have a robust experience of all aspects of music. *** Lesson Details *** I have a lesson plan that I follow for beginning students to get them through the basics. As a teacher I am laid back, and positive, but always try to give the student a clear reflection of how they are ...
I teach from very beginner to intermediate stages, from how to hold pluck, pick and strum to theory, chords, scales, rhythm, lead and how to compose your own songs.
Recently, I relocated to Atlanta to settle down, start a family and teach music from home. Originally from the UK, I traveled and studied music in Brisbane, Australia, where I gained a Diploma in Contemporary Music in 2000. Since then I have toured internationally with signed acts, recorded albums, guested with numerous bands and composed music scores for two feature films and various shorts along with directing my own music video and having my music featured in various movies and TV shows. I also have booked acts across the US and organized music festivals in Los Angeles. I have vast skills from performance to management, booking, PR and placements in film and television. Whether you are looking to just begin learning an instrument for fun or would like to take your skills further ...
I have been playing bass in bands since 1999. Over time I tended to write a lot of solo bass compositions, and tend to take a more "creative" method to bass. However I understand and practice my fundamentals, which always help muscle memory, and allow for much more fluid playing.
I've been teaching bass for nearly 20 years. As a professional bassist playing 5-8 gigs weekly for about 10 years, I learned a wide range of bass lines and playing styles.
I can help bassists of all levels improve and diversify their playing technique and awareness of all things bass!
I have a recent background check from a CNA (nursing assistant) certification course which I took in the Fall and Winter of 2013-14. I will gladly email it upon request. I grew up in Birmingham, AL, Boston, MA, and Cleveland, OH, and was classically trained on violin in all three cities. I began studying theory in 7th grade at The Alabama School of Fine Arts. Upon graduating Emory university in 1992 I played professionally in Destin, FL as a bassist, guitarist, violinist, and vocalist. I relocated to Atlanta in November of 2013. I have taught individuals and group lessons on violin, bass, and guitar since 1997 and for several consecutive years at Playground Music in Fort Walton Beach.
