Click, here, to see the trailer for the documentary about the legendary "Muscle Shoals".

After playing piano professionally while in high school, David attended the University of Montevallo- Alabama's oldest and most respected music school and earned a Bachelor of Music Education in Piano and Voice. In fact, David studied classical piano with Dr. Robert Cowan of the internationally acclaimed duo piano team- Yarbrough and Cowan and studied voice with Bruce Tolbert and Madame Baruvka- a world renowned European opera singer. Additionally, David was also a fellow classmate of the current Broadway diva, Rebecca Luker.

After graduating from Montevallo, David moved to Atlanta and starred in professional musical theatre while working as a public school choral music director and attending Georgia State University for Post Baccalaureate studies in Theatre. In fact, David completed some of his actor training at the HB Acting Studio in NYC.

Some of David's favorite roles include the Dentist in Little Shop of Horrors, Rudolfo in A View from the Bridge, Serge in The Food Chain, the teacher in School House Rock, Sky Masterson in Guys and Dolls, multiple characters in The Harvey Milk Show and Raywanda in Saga: The Story of Whitney Bonneville. In 1995, David earned a Master of Education in Counseling from Georgia State University and completed 2 more years of additional Post Graduate studies in Counseling at the University of Alabama at Birmingham.

After working in the public and private schools for a number of years, David combined his music, theatre and counseling experience into creating David M Artist Development in 2005. In fact, David is one of the only piano and voice teachers in the country who's been cross trained in the areas of music, theatre, education and psychology.

David particularly enjoys working with semiprofessional and professional musicians and actors in the Atlanta area looking to expand their knowledge, skills and experience and adults who've ignored their creative sides for most of their life while attending to family and career matters instead.

Ali has had music in her life since she was in the crib. She has performed professionally in the musical theatre world and she has studied in several universities for Musical Theater, Jazz, Pop, Blues, and R&B. Since the age of sixteen, she has been selected to sing as a guest soloist for venues such as Spivey Hall, Georgia World Congress Center, and Georgia Tech Hotel Conference Center. Ali has also sung for many movies and recordings, and recently recorded a demo for David Foster, Barbra Streisand, and Andrea Bocelli and recently toured as a pianist for "The Women of Ireland." She is a recent graduate of Berklee College of Music and earned her BM in Music Business and Vocal Performance cum laude studying under Magi Scott, Jeff Ramsey, Jerome Kyles, and Carolyn Escoffrey, Donna McElroy, Livingston Taylor, Joan Lader, and Charlie Sorrento.

Ali is also known for playing piano. She received her minor in Piano Performance within a year at Shorter College under Helen Ramsaur. She has been playing since she was five years old and has accompanied many people and musical productions.

Some of Ali's major influences include:

Linda Eder, Aretha Franklin, Jennifer Hudson, Lena Horne, Judy Garland, Whitney Houston, Billie Holliday, and Lara Fabian, Barbra Streisand

*** Lesson Details ***
Ali loves to share her passion of music to the world and especially through her students. She loves to share new ideas and nuances along with the basics and fundamentals of technique. Although practice can be boring for the student, asking a student to pick at least one song to work on can help the student and the teacher have fun and learn at the same time. After a few months, not only will her students have fun, but they will learn how to be a better person and musician.

Subjects Taught

Acting, Broadway Singing, Music Performance, Music Theory, Opera Voice, Piano, Singing

About Me

I have played piano for 20 years and sang almost as long. I had professional voice lessons from Daniela Opravialova, retired opera singer, for 6 years and have performed on local stages in several leading roles. I am a proficient sight reader who participated in All State Chorus for 6 years and was awarded the music departmental plaque for my entire school. I have a focus on opera, musical theater, folk, and intermediate piano.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am a fairly laid back instructor who will focus on your improvements and showcase your talents through performances. I will use a variety of curriculum varying from theory (to teach you how to read your music) to vocal techniques and performance pieces. In a few months I will have your vocal range strengthened and you will play piano with more confidence. I will start with your lowest ability and work up to more difficult pieces whether in piano, voice, or both.

*** Studio Equipment ***
Piano

*** Travel Equipment ***
I can provide a keyboard at lessons but otherwise they would need a keyboard/piano. I can also provide literature or sheet music.

*** Specialties ***
I studied music with a focus on opera and musical theater but am also fond of folk and pop.

About Me

Thank you for taking the time to view my profile- I look forward to helping you achieve your musical goals. I'm excited to announce that I'm now available to teach via Skype if you're outside of my teaching radius or are seeking a more convenient alternative.

I'm a professional guitarist with a background in jazz, heavy metal, blues, classical, and bossa nova. In 2006 I graduated from the Berklee College of Music and am lead guitarist for the Atlanta band Leaving Babylon.

Whether you are a beginning guitarist or a seasoned professional, I can expand and enhance your playing in any direction you choose. I look forward to getting to know you as a student and learning about what course of study will bring out not only your understanding of music but a musical style that is unique to you.

Having a long time love of all music I have always enjoyed discussing music and educating others on its many aspects. As such I began teaching during summers home from Berklee and found that it was something I had a great deal of talent for. Now, with seven years of teaching experience behind me, I look forward to bringing my skills and insights to students of all ages and bring not only ability on the guitar but a greater love of music to a fresh crop of open minds!!

In addition to guitar, I am also qualified to teach voice, public speaking, dramatic acting, and all aspects of music theory, the latter of which I incorporate into all of my music lessons.

PLEASE NOTE: I am able to take students either in my home studio or at the student's residence. In both cases students who are under 18 years of age are required to have a parent or guardian present during all lessons.

*** Lesson Details ***
Although I follow a specific lesson plan, its important to customize that to each student's skill level and specific needs. Thus, I will spend the first lesson evaluating where the student is in terms of overall musical awareness, existing skill on the instrument, and long term interest.

By the end of the first month, my beginning students will be able to perform basic chromatic and major scales, name the notes on the instrument, and have command of a few basic chords. With these core concepts and regular, committed practice, they will be able to learn and perform songs in a wide variety of styles after 3 to 6 months have passed.

My more advanced students will have a lesson plan customized to their specific goals and desires. In 3 to 6 months with such a student I will have them well on the path to accomplishing their long term goals, whether those be playing, composition, harmonic awareness, understanding of theory, or all of the above.

*** Studio Equipment ***
dedicated music room; cables/amps; electric & acoustic guitars; keyboard

*** Travel Equipment ***
Electric or acoustic guitar as needed.

*** Specialties ***
Having graduated from the Berklee College of Music, I follow their approach in educating the student. In this regard I teach music theory along with the physical act of playing the guitar, which serves to not only enrich the experience for the student but demonstrate how what they are learning is applied to music on the whole.

I am fluent in many genres and specialize in rock, jazz, the blues, and various fusion genres. Because music functions off of the same principles regardless of genre, I can take whatever style the student might best appreciate and structure my lesson plan around it.
