About Nahal

Music is the food for the soul. It inspires and influences people whether they are musicians or not.

I started playing the piano when I was 10. My parents took me for piano lessons to introduce me to music and see whether I’d like it. Well, I loved it! I have been playing since then and music has become part of my life. I have been taking piano lessons with 3 different private instructors. My recent private piano teacher is a student of Iran’s most well-known pianist and composer, Emanuel Malek Aslanian. My focus area is classical piano music. Some of my favorite composers include Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Schubert and Bach. However, I enjoy music from all over the globe and love discovering new musical styles and pieces I can play !

Nahal has been a great teacher for my eleven year old daughter. She is very patient and makes the process of learning a new instrument fun and stress-free which is important in order to inspire young people to continue playing. I hope that she will continue to teach for many more years!

Matthew has been great with our son! A perfect balance between keeping our 6-year old interested but also teaching the essentials. Other teachers just didn't "get it" when teaching a young, active boy. We are very pleased with Matt's approach, and after only 3 lessons and some practice, I am already able to jam with my son on some simple rock n roll tunes.

My son had just 3 Drum lessons with Matt and he was very encouraging while teaching him the Drum rudiments. Vikram made progress in leaps and bounds considering it was such a short time and we thank Matt for his easy going approach. He was always on time and great with communicating ahead of time if there were any changes. I wish him the very best.

Matt is a true professional!

Matt teaches my 10 year old on drums and has done an amazing job. He has instilled the basics and foundation of drumming while still holding the interest of my son. At the same time he is developing his ear and teaching him how to play and adapt to different styles of music.

I highly recommend Matt for all ages of drumming kids and adults alike.

I am an adult learner and wanted a teacher that did not treat me like a child. Erin is a great teacher and treats me like an adult. She helps me to attain my goals and works at my pace. She encourages me especially when I don't think I can do a particular piece or perform at a recital. I know she can take me through to any level I want to accomplish on the violin.

Jazmin, my daughter, has been playing cello for almost 2 years and was having a rough time, losing interest and motivation.Erin was of tremendous help. She immediately connected with my daughter, who needed a little push to keep going after we moved to a rural area and she left her friends behind, got her motivated again to start playing and now she is back at school where she will be part of the orchestra once again. Thank you very much for all your help,Erin!

Jesse H. Del Mar, CA

About Jesse

I studied Jazz Guitar with Peter Sprague and then went on to study the classical guitar with Celin Romero. Later on, while I attended UCSD I studied with Pepe Romero in master classes. In 1982 I became interested in classic rock and founded my band, The Mar Dels. We still play all over the world for private and public events. During my time with The Mar Dels I have learned and performed many of the classic rock hits.

*** Lesson Details ***
I am interested in giving my students a solid background in right and left hand technique for the guitar. This will include finger picking technique for the right hand as well as flat picking. I would like all my students to develop a correct left hand position. This is very important to the student if they wish to continue to play for many years ...

Great teacher!

We moved to the area from aboard 6 months ago and didn't no how to find a guitar teacher for our daughter.
Take lessons pointed us in the direction of Jesse, and we haven't looked back!
Our daughter thoroughly enjoys her lessons with Jesse, who makes it a lot more appealing by introducing modern music to the lessons. I have and would continue to recommend him.

My main regret is that I did not start with him when I was much younger!

I have had the pleasure of lessons from Jesse Horner for two years. I started when I was 73 years old and never had any music training before, so I started from scratch. Jesse has been great in guiding me in the direction I seemed to want to go. With almost 40 years experience, I think Jesse has experience and knowledge of every aspect of music theory, guitars and guitar playing(also Ukuleles). He makes the lessons enjoyable and is very flexible and understanding in his teaching process. My main regret is that I did not start with him when I was much younger!

If you have high standards, you'll be pleased

Having moved from Barcelona Spain we were interested in continuing our daughter's classical guitar lessons. He is able to connect to our daughter (age 10) and encourage her while giving her good feedback. She practices on her own (without reminders) and looks forward to Jesse's visits. You won't be disappointed.
Emily S. San Diego, CA

About Emily

When I was little, I begged my mom to let me play the piano. At age 5, I started taking lessons at my school. As my passion for music grew, I began composing and at age 11. I wrote my first complete song. Continuing to study and compose music, I completed nine years of California'™s Certificate of Merit music program, and for several consecutive years, I was selected by the Certificate of Merit judges to perform in multiple honors recitals. I have also been singing all my life and have been formally trained in voice. Being able to sing and accompany myself on the piano has been very rewarding, and I hope to help others to do the same! In addition, I graduated with a Bachelor's of Arts in Psychology with concentrations in Ballet and Literature from the University of California, ...

Wonderful Teacher!

My daughter had been playing the piano for 3 years, but she had stopped enjoying it. Once she starting taking with Emily S, she started loving it again and practices every day without me having to tell her. There's something special about Emily - she loves music so much and brings out that love in other people too. Now my daughter looks forward to her piano lesson every week.

I recommend Colin

Colin has been very punctual and prepared for every lessons.
Colin suggests helpful practice methods and gives listening assignments as well, so it helped me a lot to improve my understanding in jazz in general.

I accomplished so much as I followed his lessons and enjoy playing saxophone even more.
