About Nahal

Music is the food for the soul. It inspires and influences people whether they are musicians or not. I started playing the piano when I was 10. My parents took me for piano lessons to introduce me to music and see whether I’d like it. Well, I loved it! I have been playing since then and music has become part of my life. I have been taking piano lessons with 3 different private instructors. My recent private piano teacher is a student of Iran’s most well-known pianist and composer, Emanuel Malek Aslanian. My focus area is classical piano music. Some of my favorite composers include Beethoven, Chopin, Liszt, Mozart, Schubert and Bach. However, I enjoy music from all over the globe and love discovering new musical styles and pieces I can play ! I have been teaching piano for over 6 ...

Nahal has been a great teacher for my eleven year old daughter. She is very patient and makes the process of learning a new instrument fun and stress-free which is important in order to inspire young people to continue playing. I hope that she will continue to teach for many more years!

Allison R. San Diego, CA

About Allison

I began playing the violin in 3rd grade in my school general music class and instantly fell in love with it. I begged my mom for private lessons and after a year, she finally caved in. By my freshman year in high school, I had decided that I wanted to major in violin performance in college and make a career out of being a classical violinist. I went on to earn my Bachelor of Music in violin performance from State University of New York at Purchase. During my freshman year, I began teaching private violin and viola lessons at the Westport Music Center in Connecticut. I quickly realized that teaching is very fulfilling and that I loved sharing my passion and knowledge of the violin with others. While in undergrad, I also won my first job in a part time professional orchestra, the ...

This teacher is outstanding.

I would think that Allison would be good with any age and capability, but my daughter is 7 and just beginning. Allison is a perfect teacher. She makes good use of every minute, yet is fun and pleasant. She constantly gives positive reinforcement. My daughter really likes her and so do I!

Allison is very patient and perceptive when teaching. She is great at observing and correcting my mistakes. She gives great advice on how to make my playing better. Most of all, she is a nice and competent teacher. I plan to continue my lessons with her in the future.

Matthew has been great with our son! A perfect balance between keeping our 6-year old interested but also teaching the essentials. Other teachers just didn't "get it" when teaching a young, active boy. We are very pleased with Matt's approach, and after only 3 lessons and some practice, I am already able to jam with my son on some simple rock n roll tunes.

My son had just 3 Drum lessons with Matt and he was very encouraging while teaching him the Drum rudiments. Vikram made progress in leaps and bounds considering it was such a short time and we thank Matt for his easy going approach. He was always on time and great with communicating ahead of time if there were any changes. I wish him the very best.

Matt is a true professional!

Matt teaches my 10 year old on drums and has done an amazing job. He has instilled the basics and foundation of drumming while still holding the interest of my son. At the same time he is developing his ear and teaching him how to play and adapt to different styles of music.

I highly recommend Matt for all ages of drumming kids and adults alike.

Corby S. San Diego, CA

About Corby

I grew up in Southern CA and played piano all my life beginning with classical studies at age 6. I moved to the east coast and obtained my music degree from NYU in 1995 and began teaching in Greenwich Village NYC in 1999. All the while I taught I continued to take lessons from some of the world's greatest musicians living in NYC. I was classically trained, but ventured into jazz and pop studies after college. I played many jazz solo gigs in New York City as well as accompanied singers, performed and sang my own material at songwriter venues, accompanied rock bands on keyboards and performed classical music in the recital galas I hosted for my students. I've played and taught all styles and have a passion for teaching and learning! I encourage students to play what they love, ...

Learning with Corby has been a great experience. She does a great job of making sure I'm learning scales, piano theory, as well as songs I enjoy playing. Practicing on a grand piano has been a wonderful experience as well.

Comfortable, friendly and highly skilled in instructing/playing

Corby is a phenomenal piano instructor. Her passion for playing and teaching the piano shines through in every aspect of her lessons with me. She does so much more than simply teach you how to play an instrument. She has a knack for making you understand the theory, the timing, reading notes, playing, understanding the pieces you're playing... and she seems to be able to tailor her teaching to each individual. She challenges me and its so refreshing. Her expertise in the piano as a whole is so apparent in everything she does during a lesson.
Her level of accountability and responsibility to her students has raised the bar with my own level of responsibility for practicing and learning. I want to practice not just for my own growth, but also because she seems to hold a standard of her own that I want to reciprocate. And the environment is fun, comfortable and non-intimidating.
Learning to play piano with Corby has been so beyond what I thought learning an instrument could be. I highly recommend her to anyone, any level. I've been playing for three months and I'm so much further along in my practice than I ever thought imaginable.

The Best

When I signed up for lessons, I honestly did not know the fundamentals of playing the piano. Corby carefully helped me learn from the ground up. Her kind compliance helped me ignite more and more ambition each week, and now I am understanding and playing with much more confidence. Not only does she teach you how to play the piano, but she teaches you the theory behind the music as well, so that you're a STUDENT of the instrument, rather than just a musician that plays the notes. She's articulate and remarkably organized. If you're interested in the piano, I would be baffled if you didn't sign up with Corby.
Jesse H. Del Mar, CA

About Jesse

I studied Jazz Guitar with Peter Sprague and then went on to study the classical guitar with Celin Romero. Later on, while I attended UCSD I studied with Pepe Romero in master classes. In 1982 I became interested in classic rock and founded my band, The Mar Dels. We still play all over the world for private and public events. During my time with The Mar Dels I have learned and performed many of the classic rock hits. *** Lesson Details *** I am interested in giving my students a solid background in right and left hand technique for the guitar. This will include finger picking technique for the right hand as well as flat picking. I would like all my students to develop a correct left hand position. This is very important to the student if they wish to continue to play for many years ...

Great teacher!

We moved to the area from aboard 6 months ago and didn't no how to find a guitar teacher for our daughter.
Take lessons pointed us in the direction of Jesse, and we haven't looked back!
Our daughter thoroughly enjoys her lessons with Jesse, who makes it a lot more appealing by introducing modern music to the lessons. I have and would continue to recommend him.

My main regret is that I did not start with him when I was much younger!

I have had the pleasure of lessons from Jesse Horner for two years. I started when I was 73 years old and never had any music training before, so I started from scratch. Jesse has been great in guiding me in the direction I seemed to want to go. With almost 40 years experience, I think Jesse has experience and knowledge of every aspect of music theory, guitars and guitar playing(also Ukuleles). He makes the lessons enjoyable and is very flexible and understanding in his teaching process. My main regret is that I did not start with him when I was much younger!

Aasim S. San Diego, CA

About Aasim

Zo is an ambitious musician from San Diego. Since he was a young child, he always had a fascination with music. After picking up his first guitar, he realized that he wanted to take his passion in music to the next level and absorb as much music as possible. He formed a rock band with two of his close friends and finally got the experience of what it was like to play in a band. This caused him to make the decision to study music while going to college since he truly wanted to do something he enjoyed. So, he enrolled in the Bob Cole Conservatory of Music of California State University Long Beach where he majored in a Jazz Performance Guitar degree. Through his experience here, he met many musicians to learn from and play with. While at school, he was receiving guitar lessons from two of ...
