Singing techniques in style of student's choosing. As a beginning level student we will start with classical techniques to give a solid foundation to your voice- in order to sing in any genre the student wishes to advance.

About Melissa

I am dedicated to helping you to feel comfortable singing, performing and even auditioning. Teaching healthy techniques to free up your voice and give you the confidence to sing what you want.

I have recently finished a Master's of Music degree from Brigham Young University (BYU) in vocal performance. I have taught private and group voice lessons since 2011, and have developed effective ways of communicating to students. I am trained to help students get to know their voices and how to use them effectively.

I have performed major operatic roles for BYU, and am currently performing with the Utah Opera Chorus in Salt Lake City. I have performed in many venues and in front of hundreds of people. My background in performance allows me to teach my students necessary techniques to ...

Fantastic teacher!

Melissa is wonderful! I was nervous to take lessons, and she made me feel comfortable. She is very friendly and very complimentary of what I am doing well, even if I'm doing other things poorly. I would recommend her to anyone, especially those who are shy about getting started.

Great Teacher! :)

Melissa is an amazing voice teacher! She always created a comfortable environment that we could learn about our individual voices in. She always told me exactly what I needed to improve on in a way that wasn't demeaning, but encouraging! I also attended an opera that she was in, and she was a great actress and singer! I really enjoyed her class and benefited a lot from it.

Great Teacher!

I have nothing but good things to say about Melissa James. She is a very talented teacher who can take a student of any skill level and let them know what they can work on to improve. I really enjoyed the semester class that I took from her.

I first started taking from Doreene about three years ago. I live in a place where there seem to be absolutely NO good voice teachers, and I was absolutely lost when it came to technique. Luckily, I was recommended to her by a friend and have been taking lessons over webcam ever since. All I can say is Wow! What an improvement! I had no connection into my chest voice when I first began taking and was terrified to sing anything other than classical. Now I feel confident singing pop, theater, Broadway, you name it, because I have faith in my voice and I know that she's always right. You'll never have to worry about being embarrassed about your voice when you sing for her or anything. She's fun, friendly, happy, and she knows what she's talking about. Even if you don't plan on being famous one day, you will love being able to use all three parts of your voice and will develop faith in your own singing, something that we always try for. Thanks so much Doreene!!

Seth F. Provo, UT

About Seth

Hello! My name is Seth.
I'm currently enrolled in the College of Business at the University of Utah. I began playing guitar when I was 15 after my dad suggested I pick up his old Takamine. I immediately started teaching myself the chords in the back of a instruction book. I am completely self taught however, throughout my 10 years of playing I've picked up new techniques, skills and song repertoire from the many musicians I've met. I spent 4 years working at Bert Murdock Music in Orem, UT where I learned guitar maintenance and repair from a master luthier.
I've played in bands both in Utah and Texas where my parents live. I am a songwriter. There is no better instrument to accompany the voice than the guitar! I learned to sing as a boy when I ...

A 1-hour Voice Lesson consists of

- Warm-Ups, both body and voice. Breathing exercises and technique refinement. Group vocal exercises. Healthy vocal technique reinforcement.

- Musical theory, basic elementary & intermediate harmonies, ear training, movement

- Repertoire: work on pieces both as a group and individually.

Regular Peer Recitals help students to perform for one another. This drives their motivation to perfect pieces for performance. It is also priceless in its value for students to learn how to identify skills that they are working on themselves, and to give, receive and apply constructive criticism.

We were new to Sandy about a year ago and were lucky enough to find Kristen to be my son's First-Ever Piano teacher. She has helped him grow in his piano skills and theory. He loves to play the piano at home any chance he gets! We are very pleased with the outcome thus far. I would recommend her to any one looking for a good teacher or a good friend :-)
Jennifer H. Provo, UT

I began singing at an early age and continued rigorously studying the vocal art throughout college. I studied with various professors including Dr. Diane Reich and Dr. Ruth Christiansen, and actively participated in the auditioned BYU Choirs.

For voice lessons I only accept students age 11 and older. Some exceptions may apply. Please message me for more details if you have questions!

I want my students to become not only excellent performers, but overall excellent musicians. I believe that all of my students should be working in three areas of music: music theory, music development, and performance based study. For my voice students, this portion of our lesson is mainly spent on sight-singing (the ability to look at a piece of music and sing it without help from the piano or another singer). In voice we work through a series of voice building warm-ups to increase pitch accuracy and other basic vocal technique. Lastly, I require all of my students to be developing and enhancing ...

About Jennifer

I teach voice, piano and flute to a myriad of students from all ages! I specialize in a plethora of genres in all three instruments. I am eager to help you or your child learn the joy that comes through music!

Please note some exceptions to those ages under my specialties. Piano students are only taught in their homes and voice students must be older than age 11. Message me personally if you have any exception questions.
