Lesson Details

Zach is happy to teach all ages and skill levels. Whether you are trying to learn how to read notation, develop musicianship skills, or just want to learn your favorite songs the idea is to find the fun in music. Each lesson focuses on different points of musicianship associated with the relative musical study. Articulation, finger gymnastics, theory and analysis, and a historical perspective are all points of interest that can be brought to a lesson. About

I started taking music very seriously in middle school when I began guitar lessons at a local music shop. I was inspired at the time to learn all of my favorite Beatles songs as well as the punk music I was totally obsessed with. At the time I was fortunate enough to have been learning from a college educated musician Dr. Mark Cook, director of Composition and Music Theory at Shepherd University and Gerry Kunkel, Guitar chair at Maryland University. My passion for music grew exponentially from ... this point on and I spent the next years playing in as many ensembles as possible in school as well as my own bands with friends, a chance for me to work on my own compositions. As my drive for music increased I began taking lessons for other instruments including piano, trombone, and voice. This constant practice and dedication to the study of theory eventually resulted in my acceptance to the University of the Arts in Philadelphia to study jazz guitar performance.
At UArts my exposure to music and new musical practices was what kept me constantly working to better myself as a player and composer. I was able to study with many great theorists and performers in both the jazz and classical style including Scott McGill, Tom Giacobetti, Matt Davis. In my spare time in Philadelphia I work on performing my own songs and getting a feel for the music scene in the city. I play with a number of rock groups and folk and through networking found session work as a guitarist, pianist, and vocalist in various studios in Philadelphia. Currently I am playing with the bands Ape School, The Extraordinaires, The Divine Lorraine playing original music, and covering rock standards with the new Black. When I'm not teaching or performing I record at home or do session work for different projects in Philadelphia studios.
