    About Zachary A.

Zach is a New York based composer, performer and educator. Beginning with piano at age four and later picking up bass guitar, he has worked in a wide variety of musical styles and genres. Zach holds Undergraduate and Master's degrees in classical composition from Manhattan School of Music, where he studied with Richard Danielpour and Nils Vigeland. With works ranging from screen to stage to concert hall, Zach's music has been heard throughout the New York area, from Lincoln Center to indie movie houses. As a keyboardist and bass player, he has performed and toured with local, regional and national acts, specializing in funk, dance and rock. Zach has over ten years of teaching experience in composition, music theory, piano and bass guitar, with students of all ages and experience levels. *** Lesson Details *** Learning music isn't just about pushing keys and plucking strings- it's about making art! As a composer, the creative process is just as important as technique, and as a teacher, I strive to instill that sense of creativity in all of my students. Students will not only learn the fundamentals of how to physically play an instrument or write a song, but will also understand the system by which music operates and the reasons why music can affect us so profoundly. Why does one song make us laugh and another song make us cry? Why does this song make us want to dance but that song makes us want to relax? In a few months, my students can not only answer WHY to these types of questions, but can also answer HOW, through implementation as well as understanding. Each student will receive an individualized curriculum based on their age, goals and experience, but one thing ALL of my students walk away with is an appreciation for music as a great art form which connects us all across cultures and generations. *** Studio Equipment *** Small project studio with a Logic Pro setup, Fender and Gibson basses and guitars, Fender and Vox bass and guitar amps, Rhodes piano, digital synths, midi controllers and an 88-key digital piano. *** Travel Equipment *** The student is expected to provide their instrument and maintain a supply of pencils and staff paper to be used during lessons. *** Specialties *** Composition/Songwriting/Music Theory Piano- all styles and genres Bass guitar- Funk. Rock, Soul and R&B
