If you are looking for a fun, enthusiastic, motivating, knowledgeable, and personable drum teacher then your search is over. I first picked up drumsticks at the age of eleven and it was love at first drum hit. After playing for almost twelve years now, I have had the chance to learn from great teachers, who have given me the tools that every drummer should have in his or her arsenal. In my lessons, I teach all of the drum knowledge that has been bestowed unto me. If you take lessons from me, I can guarantee that you will become a well-rounded drummer who can play any genre of music. Being able to comfortably play various genres aided me when I co-wrote an album with my band a few years back. And if a drummer is genre flexible, he or she can jump aboard any musical opportunity that comes along. In addition to learning beats and essential rudiments and sticking techniques, I love working on drum fills with students because it is fun to learn the fancy tricks that contribute to making a drummer flashy.
I have played with countless musicians and they have all complimented on my ability to keep time, which is a skill that I think every drummer should learn. If you can't keep time, then nobody will want to play with you. But fear not, that is why I am here. I hope you are ready to be the best drummer you can be!
*** Lesson Details ***
When I teach drum lessons, I encourage students to bring me what they want to learn, but everybody has to learn the fundamentals. My drum lessons begin with proper sticking techniques, orientation around the drum kit, and basic beats that will get you playing along to simple material. If you are not a beginner, however, I assess your skill level and progress from there. What follows is a series of drum beats that I bring in from all genres of music because my lessons are designed to make you the most well-rounded drummer you can be. And while the lessons are fun, I am quite the stickler on keeping a constant tempo. This means that I work patiently with the student on whatever material is being taught and make sure that he or she does not slow down or speed up. If you can be a pocket drummer (a drummer who keeps perfect time), that is the goal and I want to help you reach that goal. Beats, however, are not the only thing I teach. After my students learn the basics, I incorporate rudiment exercises, more advanced sticking tricks, and poly-rhythmic exercises, which helps the drummer to be dexterous and use all four limbs at the same time. If you are looking to be a well-rounded, technically sound, and solid drummer, I am the guy who can make that happen.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide the material for the students to learn and I expect the students to provide a drum kit or whatever drum on which he/she wishes to learn or improve.
*** Specialties ***
I specialize in teaching drummers to maintain perfect time. Playing in the pocket is one of the most crucial elements of being a drummer, which is why time-keeping is a crucial part of my lessons. I also make students count out loud and slow the tempo if they are working through something. These two techniques together force the students to think about what they are playing. Breaking things down into separate parts is also a constructive technique.
