Music Theory

Levels Taught: Beginner - Advanced

M.A. Music Theory. Although I enjoy post-graduate level music theory and analysis, overall most music theory is at a beginner- intermediate level, taught during or before/after the lesson for those who show an interest in music and only prefer to play piano during part of the lesson and use a music theory workbook in lieu of practicing piano at home, and for piano students such as siblings who spend 60 min in studio. Fun music theory games are played on the iPad, and instructed on at-home use, in addition to the use of Music Theory books that are complimentary to the Lesson Book used in piano.

I'm a friendly, patient, enthusiastic, experienced teacher, joyfully instructing piano professionally since 1999. Music transcends words, and I have a deep understanding of music/ piano, both personal/ experiential, and technical/ academic which I truly enjoy sharing with my students.

A classically-trained pianist, Master of Arts in music theory and composition, I've been taking piano lessons since age 6 and playing "by ear" from early childhood. I continued to study piano throughout elementary school, high school, and college where I studied piano, music history and theory, music therapy, and psychology. In graduate school, I studied piano and music theory under David Holzman, world-renowned Grammy-nominated pianist and lecturer. I draw from my love of music, piano and my own vast experience as a pianist, piano student, and piano teacher to motivate and inspire my students.

*** Lesson Details ***
Fun, engaging, personalized, and productive, each lesson is both enjoyable and effective. I want the love of music and the joy it brings to be the reason my students want to practice piano and attend lessons. The rapport between student and teacher is one of the most important factors of your First Class lessons. I consider it a priority that each student feel comfortable with me, feel at-home in my studio, enjoy their lessons, and develop a love and knowledge of music that will last a lifetime.

New concepts and homework assignments are explained and documented in easy-to-understand ways. Proper technique is stressed regardless of experience level or age.

Students have the opportunity to showcase their talent and hard work for family and friends on YouTube and at my annual Spring Piano Recital!

*It is highly recommended that you have a keyboard (with standard-sized keys) or piano.*

Rated 5 out of 5 by Love my piano lessons My piano lessons are the highlight of my week and if I made so much progress in 6 months it's because of Trina patience and skills. She always points me in the right direction and I hope to progress much more. April 9, 2014
