About Travis G.
Born and raised in Houston, TX, I graduated from the High School for the Performing and Visual Arts in 2000. From there, I continued my musical education by attending the Cleveland Institute of Music, attaining a Bachelor's of Music Degree in 2005, specializing in viola performance. I returned to Houston and attended the University of Houston, graduating with Master's Degree in 2008. I have played chamber music since high school, playing all over Houston in many different venues and types of occasions. I have two years of experience teaching violin in public schools in the Houston area. I also am a member of the viola section of the Victoria Symphony. If a student is interested in furthering their learning and experience in classical music, I can provide them with tools to aid them along their way.
*** Lesson Details ***
My approach varies depending on the student's level of experience and approach to learning. I understand every student has individual needs, so I try to be sensitive with each step I take concerning their learning. With beginning and intermediate students, I follow the Suzuki method of teaching. With more advanced students, I will try to incorporate standard classical literature into their repertoire.
*** Travel Equipment ***
I provide certain materials required for learning. They provide the instruments and instruction books that I recommend.
*** Specialties ***
I have taught the Suzuki method and have also helped students learn basic sight reading skills. With beginning students, I recommend the Suzuki method. With more advanced students, I take an approach learned from my own personal training, which involves higher level pieces and technical training.
