Tom has over 30 years of playing experience and has been teaching private guitar lessons in Riverton since 2005. Though highly influenced by the hard rock of the 1980s Tom has also studied jazz and blues, and even did some classical piano in college. Tom has written and recorded numerous songs, performing many of these tunes with his Los Angeles based band "Tom Slikk" in the late 1980s. Influences include: Yngwie Malmsteen, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Albert King. *** Lesson Details *** I try to create a friendly and comfortable environment where the beginning guitarist can build a strong musical foundation, have fun, and develop a love of the instrument. My approach varies to some degree depending on the specific interests of the student, but I will typically combine a structured "workbook" approach with the learning of songs. For beginners, I stress the mastery of basics - good technique, sight-reading, basic music theory, chords, scales and song construction. For advanced or experienced players I might focus more on building speed and accuracy (using classical violin or piano music, ala Yngwie Malmsteen, for example). *** Studio Equipment *** Music room w/ guitars, amps, stands, metronome, and seating for parents *** Travel Equipment *** Students just need a guitar. *** Specialties *** Rock (especially 80s hard rock, including Yngwie Malmsteen style) and blues.
