    Education

University of North Texas - Music Theory - Aug 07 - now

    Specialties
I can teach you to play in many different styles on drums and guitar. I specialize in music theory and applying it to your instrument. I want to make learning and understanding music as easy as possible. In my undergrad in college, I was trained classically on the guitar.
    Lesson Details
The lesson pace will follow the pace you set. Everyone is different and has their own goals when it comes to learning the guitar or drums. I try to create an environment where the student feels free to express themselves anyway they want. I listen to the student and try to introduce new ideas to them that they can use to improve their playing. In our lessons, you would set the goals and we will have a ton of fun along the way.

    About
    Hi!
My name is Felipe and I am a graduate of the University of North Texas where I studied Music Theory and am classically trained at the guitar. I am currently persuing my master's degree at Texas State University. I can play many instruments and love helping others learn how to play and have fun.

My introduction to music was when I got a drum set my sophomore year of high school. I taught myself to play by playing along with my favorite bands like Pearl Jam, the Smashing Pumpkins and ...

Rated 5 out of 5 by Felipe's teaching skills are phenomenal My son and I have been taking lessons with Felipe for a few months now. I waited on this review to be sure that he deserved all five stars and now I know that he does. Felipe has a way of determining your individual goals by asking the right questions and tailoring your lessons to meet your expectations. I am on the fast track to becoming an advanced player. My son was a beginner drummer and demanded a slightly slower pace, but he is improving at an appreciable rate as well. We both look forward every week to our next lesson with Felipe. May 5, 2013
Rated 5 out of 5 by I have wanted to learn to play the mandolin for many years. Last month, I finally had the opportunity to get started. I was nervous about finding an instructor. Years ago I had an accident that damaged my left index finger. Once healed, I decided to take up classical guitar in order to rehab my finger. The instructor had a horrible attitude and was angry with me because I had no desire to go to Carnegie Hall. He made me feel so bad about myself that I stopped taking lessons completely. Felipe is so different. One of the first things he taught me was that music belongs to everyone, not just the elite. This expression eased my apprehension and spoke volumes about the type of instructor, and human being, that Felipe is. I am very appreciative of his gentle and light instruction style. He eases the anxiety associated with being a beginner and he makes it fun. I can't help but want to give him 5 stars. June 21, 2012

  • Getting Started

Excited about jumping into music lessons? Before you can get to the guitar tabs, violin concertos, and vocal riffs, take a moment to think about the logistics of your lessons.
    Lesson Length
There are a few things to consider when choosing between 30-, 45- or 60-minute lessons. First and foremost, take your age and experience level into account. You'll also want to think about your long- and short-term goals, and the time you'll need to reach them. Most importantly, consider how long you or your child is able to stay focused.
    Lesson Location
Teachers have the option to display availability for in-home, in-studio, and online music lessons. In-home lessons take place at your house, in-studio lessons are conducted at the teacher's home or professional studio, and online lessons are taught over the internet via live video chat.

    Start Your Lessons

Now the excitement can really begin! Consider the following to ensure an exceptional first lesson...
    Prepare for Your First Lesson
Once you've completed the last step, your teacher will call you within the next couple of days to confirm your first lesson time and provide you with directions to their studio, if needed. We also encourage you to discuss your goals and any other questions you may have.
    What To Expect
Every teacher is different, but most first lessons begin with an assessment of where you are in your studies. At a beginner level, you might review the basics of your instrument, such as the different parts, how to hold it correctly, and proper care and maintenance. For voice, this may be the time you learn about breathing and posture.
    Reach the Goals You Set
Every TakeLessons student is unique, and so is your lesson plan! You'll work with your instructor to develop a plan suited to meet your specific goals. Most TakeLessons instructors will also keep track of your progress with a lesson journal.
