I offer private guitar lessons tailored to your strengths, weaknesses and goals. Beginner to advanced if you want to improve your playing, I want to help. I have been involved in music since early childhood, and started playing guitar in my teens. Today guitar is my primary instrument. I can help you play a variety of styles, including but not limited to, Rock of all types, Blues, Jazz, Classical, Fingerstyle, Chord Melody and New Age music. Both electric and acoustic guitar, as well as bass guitar lessons are offered. I have been giving private guitar lessons since 1988 and have performed in numerous rock and blues bands since that time as well. Currently my live performing act is solo instrumental acoustic guitar in a new age jazz style. Since I am a also a professional performing musician I am able to offer help, insights and assistance in many areas. *** Lesson Details *** Lessons are offered for students who are: Beginning to Advanced All Ages I can help in the following styles: Rock - All styles Progressive, Metal, and more Blues Jazz Finger Style and Chord Melody Specializing In: Technique The better your technique the more you will be able to do musically. Learn tricks and tips to help improve your technique and thus your playing. Theory Want to write your own songs, improvise your own solos or just understand what you are playing? Learn theory and increase your understanding of music. Knowledge of theory is a vital tool for musicians. Study basic to advanced principles. Improvising The art of creating a great solo or a cool improvised vamp is one that will dramatically increase your musicianship and knowledge of the fretboard. Learn basic licks and understand how and when to use them. Increase your awareness of rhythm, melody and harmony. Study chord scale relationships, develop lead techniques and apply them to your solos. Sight Reading Sight reading is an important skill that many players overlook. I strongly suggest my students to learn to read. If they choose not to then I won't push it. However it you want to be a serious musician then sight reading is a must. Over 20 years of private teaching has allowed me to develop a method of teaching the skill of reading music, that anyone can learn. It is easy, fun and covers a variety of styles. The program covers the entire fretboard, encourages creativity and helps with improvising. Finger Style and Chord Melody Finger style is one of the most rewarding styles to play and when combined with an acoustic guitar, it becomes a natural experience that helps one become closer to the instrument. Play finger picking accompaniments or study the elusive chord melody style. Learn basic finger picking patterns, simple classical techniques, move on to inversions to create smooth voice leading, add walking bass lines, drones, lead lines and counterpoint. Learn different ways of arranging tunes in different styles. *** Studio Equipment *** Private studio inside a music store equipped with two amps, a music stand, a few chairs, there is room for parents, however the studio is quite small *** Travel Equipment *** None, the student would have to provide two chairs, a good music stand, their guitar and amp if necessary. I will bring my own guitar and amp if necessary. I prefer to do acoustic lessons in home, but would consider electric. *** Specialties *** Rock of all styles Blues Jazz Classical New Age Fingerstyle Chord Melody Sight Reading Music Theory

Terry cancelled our first lesson, then we rescheduled for the same time the following week. Although his schedule advertised an 8pm slot, he asked me to start at 7:30. I told him I couldn't get there until about 7:40, due to other plans. The lesson itself was ok, but Terry ended it at precisely 7:29 and 40 seconds, and I was out the door at 7:30. A little annoying since I basically got stiffed for 10 minutes. While being ushered out, I tried to schedule our next lesson, but Terry told me he couldn't schedule anything for a few days and would call me. Today I got an email message that he's moved to the other side of town! I'm annoyed about the scheduling hassles and the lessons aren't worth it. I would like a refund.

I have been really impressed with Terry. Terry works great with my 13 year old son. He is patient and always acts interested in what my son is wanting to show him. Terry is also very good at making sure he includes songs in the lesson that my son likes. I am impressed with Terry's guitar playing - my son will play something random, and Terry can join right in. As a parent I am impressed with Terry's attention to detail. As my son plays, Terry will notice things like correct fingering, strum patterns, counting, etc. If something wasn't played correctly, Terry notices it and will make the correction in a positive way. I know that my son appreciates Terry's input also. I feel like Terry is teaching my son good habits and is doing a great job of bringing exercises to lesson that are a good foundation to learning....and he adds things as building blocks to that foundation. I asked my son his opinion and he said that Terry helps you work on good technique. And while you are learning with him, you get to pick some of the songs that you want to learn.
