Western State College - Music Eduaction K-12, Emphasis in Percussion and Jazz Studies - 1997-2001 (Bachelor's degree received)
All aspects of Drums, Percussion, Rock and Roll, R & B, Country, Folk, and Jazz
I am a teacher that is here for you. You and I, as a team, will start where you are and get you to the goal of where you want to be. If you are a beginner, we will start at the basics, and if you are advanced, we will continue to refine your skills. Whether you want help with sheet music for band class, or you need help in other percussion techniques, every aspect of your lessons will be detailed to you. I will not hold back, and you will learn as much as you want to. You will get out of
lessons what you put into them, and I am open to teaching all aspects of every genre of music. Whatever your goal is, we will make it there!
I have had a love of music from a very early age. At age 5, I started learning how to play piano and by middle school, I started playing the drums. I continued to play music throughout high school and college, and learned to perform percussion for just about every genre of music. All of this led to my Bachelors of Arts in Music Education with an emphasis in Percussion and Jazz Studies. As part of the requirements for this degree, I took many classes exploring all areas of music and teaching and
found teaching to be a passion of mine. My musical experience includes teaching drum lessons to individuals and groups, organizing and instructing two drum lines for elementary school age children, being the lead drummer for a local band playing jazz, rock, funk and blues, and being the choir leader and drum player for my church. In the past, I was also the drum major for a local, national award winning drill team.
I feel that my experience has allowed me to gain the ability to teach in all situations by having a standard of what's expected for a student. I have the ability to listen, understand, and am able to relate to a student what I am teaching. I also strive to ensure that the student and I both enjoy what is being taught and what is being learned.
