Hello everyone! I am a young, energetic yet patient piano teacher residing in NYC. I am currently enrolled in a piano advancement education program at The Juilliard School Evening Division with Dr. Julie Jordan, who is a graduate of The Juilliard School, MSM, UCLA, and Dominican University of San Rafael, Dr. Jordan has earned her DMA, MFA, MM, BM magna cum laude. Dr. Jordan has been teaching for 25 years at The Juilliard School Evening Division where she is on the Piano Faculty. Dr. Julie Jordan has developed a considerable following as both pianist and pedagogue and is known for her masterclasses in New York as well as abroad. My goal as a teacher is to provide my students with the resources they need to play at their desired levels, and to have fun doing so! I hope that when my students sit down to play piano on their own, they are able to enjoy music on their own. I also hope to build the appropriate foundations for all my students, so that in the future they are able to pick up a piece of music at any point in time and continue to play and enjoy it at the same time. I have been playing classical music for 20 years. From age 14 until 19, I studied classical piano with one of the most highly regarded teachers in New Jersey- Yining Wang. Mr. Wang was also the President of the New Jersey Music Teachers Association, in addition to being the recipient of Genia Robiner Pedagogy Award of excellence, presented by the Piano Teachers Society of America, and Distinguished Pedagogy Award of Outstanding Teaching by the Cecilian Music Club. In my short 5 years of apprenticeship with Mr. Wang, I received five consecutive years of High Honor Audition Awards from the New Jersey Music Association, and placed first place in the solo Westminster Music College Piano competition. In high school, I played in school plays including "Joseph", "Music Man", "Grease", "Oliver" and participated in the percussion ensemble (that really helped my rhythm!). I've also played solo piano for our orchestra, marching band, for our symphony band, and even accompanied our choir to Montreal for a National competition. At the University of Illinois, I graduated with Bachelor of Science in Finance but with a secondary concentration in Music Theory & Piano Performance, where my passion resides. It is where I've maintained my classical theory and technique as well as develop skills in composition and improvisation. *** Lesson Details *** I have a lot of experience with children as well as adults. For children and adolescent piano students, I begin with the time-proven Alfred's Piano Method for classical piano (it's what I started with!), but adjust according to the student's skill and personality. For adults, we will work together to develop the best method for learning. Depending on the individual and interest, I am also capable of teaching music theory to those curious minds! You may also choose from some of areas I specialize in: Ear Training Sight Reading Rhythm Studies Music Theory Scales and Improvisation Oh, did I mention I have perfect pitch? It basically means I can tell which note my laundry dryer hums at. If you'd ALSO like to know which note your dryer humms, we would be an amazing match! :) *** Studio Equipment *** Dedicated studio room for music with weighted keyboard, guitars and amps, with a nice sitting area for parents. *** Travel Equipment *** I have a Yamaha piano weighted keyboard. I would expect a student to have a keyboard or piano. *** Specialties *** Classical, pop, rock, musicals

I have taken piano from Susan for 6 months now and have enjoyed everything about our online lessons. Susan is super gifted not only as a pianist, but also as a teacher who can make you feel good about yourself after the lesson has just flown by. Susan's pleasant personality and calm demeanor are an added bonus. I know whoever considers Susan as a teacher will not be disappointed and in fact will be ultimately delighted.

Awesome Teacher Susan, you are a great piano teacher and I am so glad that my son's first piano lessons were with you! He really enjoys it and you, but unfortunately we have fallen on some unforeseen financial difficulties in the last couple of week and I am not sure that we can continue lessons until things get better for us. I am very disappointed and I know Steele is as well. Take good care and thank you for showing us that this is something we should pursue in the future!Penney
