Lesson Details

We live in an area where there are an abundance of opportunities for student to participate in a variety of activities; piano is not their primary or sole interest usually. Their parents are very busy also. Some weeks my students don't accomplish as much as I would like, but I understand how busy they are. I will work with the students at their pace, pushing as much as possible but not to the point of frustration. I work primarily out of the Alfred and Faber books. My students usually have four ... books: lesson, performance, theory and notespeller. We work on scales, technique and mastery of notes and rhythms. After reaching level 2B in Faber the students can play more popular songs, Disney, Movie themes etc... It's important to let them play music they are interested in besides their lesson books. In 3-6 months they should be able to read music- the rhythms, notes and some technical aspects of piano playing.

I am a piano and woodwind specialist, having taught private lessons in the Naperville area for 8 years. Most of my students range in age from 4-16; beginning through intermediate levels. I currently have around 30 student's, most of them are receiving instruction on piano. I have a Bachelor of Music from the University of Iowa and a Masters in Educational Leadership through Concordia University. I have taught in the public school system for 17 years with experience both at the elementary and ... middle school levels. I started playing piano in first grade, organ in second grade, flute in fifth grade, bassoon in 6th grade and tenor sax in 9th grade. I have played the bassoon in the DuPage Symphony Orchestra and the Naperville Municipal Band. I have taught lessons on all woodwind instruments for students in Plainfield and Aurora through summer band camps and private lessons.

I provide my students with individualized lesson plans that encourages self motivation through positive constructive critism. I offer my students the opportunity to critique themselves before adding my evaluation of their playing. I try to add humor and excitment to their educational experience making real life connections to their playing. I set up performance opportunities for my students through nursing homes and recitals.
