    About Steve A.

Steve A. is a musician, guitarist, composer based in Richmond, VA. His musical journey started upon hearing a rendition of “Puff the Magic Dragon”,played by his uncle along with other folks songs of the day.  Since then, he’s been soaking up every ounce of music that he can absorb.  Over the years, he has played guitar, bass, piano, violin, saxophone, and various other electronic instruments.  Guitar always and forever will be his primary instrument. He’s been playing for close to twenty-six years, teaching for ten. Having received a Masters of Music degree from Virginia Commonwealth University in 2005, he’s continued at said institution as a member of both the guitar faculty and theory faculty. When not wearing my professorial hat in the classical realm, he keeps a roster of private students that covers all ages, styles and skill levels that keep him on his toes. Each student brings their own character and style to lessons, forcing him into new and creative ways of presenting the given material so music makes sense to each and sparks their musical creativity. At the heart of his teaching, Steve A. strives to give students the necessary techniques and musical vocabulary to express themselves through their instrument. This creative energy flows into my own compositions, which finds him splitting time between writing music in the more traditional “songwriter” vein and soundscapes that vere towards the classical and electronic world of sound.   *** Lesson Details *** Each lesson I teach focuses on building the techniques and music vocabulary for students to expressing their creativity through their chosen instrument. *** Studio Equipment *** Proficient in using Pro Tools, Ableton Live, Reason, Kontakt, Reaktor. *** Travel Equipment *** Taylor 414, Fender Tele, MacBook Pro *** Specialties *** experimentation with tape loops.
