Lesson Details

From rock to blues to country and bluegrass I focus on showing my students what the guitar is capable of doing for a student that is willing to practice and take some good advice. I usually use Hal Leonard method books for my beginners and Hal Leonard's Incredible Scale Finder and Incredible Chord finder for my intermediate students. I focus on teaching what my students want to learn. My style is laid back and focuses on what works for my students.I am open to studying the styles of students' ... favorite artists. I beleive a good guitar player needs a good understanding of music theory and the blues. I start early in my lessons teaching mechanical techniques that the student can use as long as they choose to play. I try to incorporate some music biography material for famous rock acts. I also introduce students to music concepts that are used in classical music.

I have been playing guitar since I was a teenager. I started out playing trumpet in jr. high school and began playing bass and guitar professionally in high school. I have studied guitar in San Miguel Allende Mexico at the Escuela de Bella Artes. I have lived in Nashville and learned much about the music business while there. I am a BMI affliated song writer. I have been teaching guitar for the last five years. Most of my current compostiional focus is on solo acoustic "art" pieces in the mold ... of Michael Hedges or Leo Kottke. I recently completed a music production course taught by grammy award winning and Berkley educated Birmingham jazz great Eric Essix. I have a my home studio set up studio where I work on recording my song ideas and some electronica.
