Music Education and Music Therapy
About Stephanie P.
Music is my true love, teaching is my true passion and bringing music into the lives of others is my true calling. Since I taught my first private flute lesson at the age of 15 I knew this was something I wanted to do for the rest of my life. Not only have I been blessed with the opportunity to teach music to children, I have also been given the gift of making music therapeutic to those who suffer from mental and physically illnesses and disabilities. I attended Berklee College of Music in Boston where I studied Music Education and Music Therapy and am proud to be a music teacher and board certified music therapist! My son, Bentley, was born in the spring of last year and now that I have had the chance to spend the ever important first year with him (and expose him to all sorts of music!) I am ready to get back into teaching.
I take a very holistic approach to teaching music. Music does not exist on it's own: it has to be made by YOU. Every person makes music in a completely different way and I feel it is important to recognize each persons abilities and capabilities. I am not concerned about what you can't do; I am concerned with what you can do! Music exists in our every day lives - on the radio, on our phones, on the television, in the stores we shop at. Music means something different to everyone, and just as this is true every person learns music a different way. My training as a music therapist as well as a music educator allows me to see teaching from a unique perspective. My students and I work as a team…establishing goals, mapping out steps to achieve those goals and subsequently moving on to bigger and better goals. As a teacher, I give my students the tools to make great music, but they are the ones who create it.
