Specialties

I specialize in jazz, rock, blues and popular music including cabaret and Bway as a vocal instructor focusing on breath control, range, repertoire and presentation development.

As a piano instructor I focus on developing the basics in theory and performance in jazz, rock, blues and pop.

Lessons are tailored to each individual student based on their level of understanding.

Lesson Details

I craft each lesson to a student's level of ability. For pianists, we begin with a basic review of technique in music theory, sight reading, piano function, how scales and chords are developed, hand positioning and those things necessary to being able to play well.

For vocalists we will concentrate on breath control, pitch, ear-training, sight-singing and repertoire development.

Since every student learns at a different pace, I consider myself somewhat laid back as an educator, although ... I do expect my students to practice, since we will review materials that were previously learned as part of our weekly lesson.

After 3-6 months, with diligent practice, you will be able to play several or sing several songs of your choosing for whatever presentation you are preparing for.

Stefaie August is a private music educator located in San Francisco, CA. She has been assisting students of all levels gain a mastery of voice, piano, music theory, and compostion for over 20 years. Her specialty is jazz, rock, blues and pop music.

Stefanie holds a bachelor of Music cum laude degree in jazz studies from the University of Bridgeport. She is also a highly accomplished vocalist and pianist who continues to perform whenever possible.
