Hi ! My name is Simon. I have an Associate Diploma from the Illawarra Institute of Technology in N.S.W, Australia. I have a strong passion for music and want to pass that on through a relaxed learning environment full of fun, energy and enthusiasm. I have taught guitar in both public and private schools and also for 7 summers at a summer camp. I teach from years 6 and above and any level. I teach all styles but my favorites would have to be rock, folk, fingerstyle and alternative. I like to teach with the focus on the needs of the student; I keep a balance between theory and practice to encourage the student and promote confidence in a non pressured atmosphere. I had a great private music teacher when I was younger so I hope I can be that source to anyone who has an interest in music! Cheers, Simon *** Lesson Details *** Lessons are relaxed and fun with a concentration on learning practical information. We learn to read music, tablature, chord charts, chords( simplify if necessary) rhythms, strumming, scales, improvisation, finger positions and techniques to help navigate that fret board! I also try and encourage ear training: if you hear certain sounds and distances between notes, you can start predicting what notes or chords come next! I also show you how to tune your guitar ( so you still sound like you did in the lesson) and how to restring your guitar and make adjustments to your guitar on request. *** Studio Equipment *** Lessons will be online or at students houses till such times as a studio space becomes available. *** Travel Equipment *** Students should have their own instrument and notepad. If there is a certain book we use it would be in their best interests to obtain it. I will let you know if there is anything else that will be useful to the lessons. *** Specialties *** I enjoy teaching rock, acoustic and fingerstyle but I will teach anything students want to learn. If I can introduce new music to people and open their eyes and ears to different styles, I've done my job. I prefer to break music down as simple as needed so students make progress and sound like they're playing a song.
