Lesson Details

I will teach you how to read music, play by ear and improvise. I believe theory, technique, scales, chords and Hanon is the foundation of a strong musical background. Once this is learned a student is able to play classical, popular, jazz, and secular, or church music. I write my own music on the computer so I enjoy teaching my students to write music also. Writing music reinforces the theory that was learned. I am strict about fingering, technique, and interpretation, enforcing this in a ... caring way, playing an example of what I require. I use the Alfred Music Program but supplement with other classical sheet music and music I have written. I like each student to get used to playing on the whole keyboard not just the middle octaves.

I am a Piano/keyboard teacher with 40+ years experience. I can take a beginner all the way through to advanced, professional level. I started my own music education at the age of 5 and have loved music ever since. I started my teaching career at the age of 14 and have helped many children develop their careers in music, becoming music teachers, or ministers of music in churches. I taught music lessons privately and in groups at Northwest University in WA state, Family Music Store, Southern ... NV Music Store, in Las Vegas, in my own home, and in the students home. I teach any style of music from classical to gospel. I have a strong classical background so I enjoy teaching all my students, even as young as 4 to play Fur Elise by Beethoven. Since my father was a minister all my life, and I started playing the piano for church at the age of 10, I also enjoy teaching those interested in church music either traditional or contemporary style of music. I like to teach improvising on the hymns, adding other than what is written. This develops a musical ear to hear and play. I have accompanied many choirs, ensembles, and a gospel traveling quartet, played for weddings, receptions, and church services so I have a wide variety of music experiences, and can pass on the knowledge to my students. Pianist/Organist for Little Church of the West playing for weddings for people that come from all over the world.
