    About Shannon F.

Music has been a passion of mine since I started music lessons at the age of 6. I founded and directed the Suffolk Chamber Orchestra in high school which performed in weddings, graduations, and outreach community venues such as nursing homes which is just one example of how learning an instrument can be a great way to get connected with your community and reach out to other people! Music has really broadened my horizons, giving me opportunities to travel to different countries. In 2006 I toured as the soloist performer in the LIYO Asia tour where we performed in China, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Cambodia. I also have a passion for performing in theatre. I have performed in Faust which ranked in the top three in the nation by the National Opera Association. I also enjoyed performing with the Metropolitan Opera’s Opera in a Nutshell performance of La Boheme and Tosca. The highlighted of my performing career was playing in Avery Fischer Hall in Lincoln Center and Carnegie Hall. At an early age I decided I really loved teaching the violin. I have eight years of experience teaching and have immensely enjoyed teaching each and every one of my students. I decided to devote my college education to studying violin teaching methods and received my degree in String Pedagogy-Violin Principle. I taught the High School/Middle School Prep students at the college and also taught at the Bob Jones Elementary School. My students have ranked in the top 3 in their school competition and 1st chair in orchestra. Currently, I am part of the Starling-Delay Symposium at the Julliard School where I have attended master classes by great pedagogues/performers such as Itzhak Perlman and Ani Kavafian. I hope to install everything I have learned in my students and share the joy of music with my students so they can share it with others! *** Lesson Details *** I cater my teaching to the student's needs and goals. If I have a students who is retired and just wants to learn the violin as a fun hobby I will be more laid back with that student versus a student that comes to me with a desire to make music his or her career. I have had experience with both. I have prepared students for competitions as well as taught a cute retired couple to play duets together! *** Specialties *** Classical but open to teaching other styles and genres as well.
