Hi! I'm a 23 year old professional musician living in Chicago. I grew up in Sleepy Hollow, Illinois. My parents are both musicians so I grew up surrounded by music. I picked up the bass at 9 and I've been playing ever since. During high school, I studied under some of the top Chicago area jazz musicians including Nick Schneider, Mark Bettcher and Ray Koehler. I spent four summers attending the Shell Lake Arts Center playing music with some of the best young musicians in the midwest. I graduated from Indiana University's Jacobs School of Music with a degree in Jazz Studies. While at Indiana, I was able to learn from several jazz greats such as David Baker, Jeremy Allen, Steve Houghton, Michael Spiro, Luke Gillespie, Pat Harbison, and Brent Wallarab. I've played in dozens of groups including the Sean F. Trio, Brownie Mountain and Cafe Cubano. When I'm not playing music, I enjoy reading, sailing and playing disc golf. *** Lesson Details *** I believe that understanding music theory is an important part of any students growth. This and having reasonable technical abilities make playing any instrument easy and fun. I like to have my students have a good understanding of the instrument but the most important thing that any student gets out of a lesson from me is that they ENJOY themselves! If a student isn't having fun playing their instrument, they won't have the motivation to truly improve. *** Studio Equipment *** Keyboard available. Otherwise, student must bring own instrument. *** Travel Equipment *** Keyboard and my own equipment. Student must have their own instrument other than a keyboard *** Specialties *** I can play and teach most styles of music including jazz, rock, pop, salsa and folk. Because of the amount of instruments that I can play, I am an ideal teacher for someone trying to pick up a second instrument. I tend to relate a lot of my teaching to things the student already knows.
