I began playing guitar more than ten years ago and fell in love with the instrument. I immersed myself in music, joining in bands and playing with as many people as I could. I quickly gained a wide variety of skills in genres ranging from folk, alternative rock, punk, heavy metal, and solo acoustic.
Since then, music has been the focus of my life. I have received years of instruction from noteworthy musicians through WI and MN. I currently study Music Therapy at the University of Minnesota. Through my schooling I have learned music theory, music history, and have furthered my musicianship in all aspects. I have a passion not only for performing, but for teaching and bringing music into others' lives.
Much of my training in music relates to songwriting. I have written as a soloist and as a member of a variety of groups. Over the years I have received private lessons from professional songwriters, taken collegiate-level classes on instrumental composition and attended lyric writing classes. I am confident teaching all aspects of songwriting to students at any level.
*** Lesson Details ***
My lessons are centered entirely around the needs of the student. I give my students the ability to choose their own pace and I tailor the material used in lessons to their musical preferences and abilities. I have a strong focus on fundamentals, which I believe are the key to success at any level of playing. As a student develops, I encourage them to develop their own voice in the music they play and show them the tools they need to do so.
My unique background in music allows me to use my personal experiences and education for the benefit of my students. I have an extensive knowledge of music theory and how it applies to the guitar. Years of songwriting and lessons from professional writers have helped me to construct a creative and practical curriculum to learn songwriting. If there is one word I could use to describe my musical background, it is eclectic. I have learned from many teachers, performed in many places, and pursued many different types of music. All of this experience benefits my students, as I am able to help them pursue a variety of interests as their musicianship grows.
Overall, I believe music should be an enjoyable and rewarding experience for everyone. I pride myself on being positive, supportive and extremely patient. I believe anyone can enjoy playing an instrument, regardless of age, background or ability.
