I am a classically trained singer who graduated from Cedarville University with my Bachelor's of Music degree. While I love to sing opera, I also enjoy singing pop, country and other music styles. I currently sing with the Phoenix Opera and continue to study with the Phoenix Opera co-founders. I have taught people of all ages and backgrounds including children, adults, jazz singers, and a professional country artist. I continue to teach a variety of students with many different goals. Because I have had different voice coaches over the years, I have learned many different teaching styles and techniques that I use to help my own students progress. *** Lesson Details *** I love to encourage my students! I believe that recognizing improvement and rewarding it increases the student's desire to progress. With that in mind, I start every lesson warming up the voice with exercises that teach free and easy singing with proper breath control. The student also learns sight-reading and some music theory. I use the same method when teaching songs, but as the student progresses, they learn to apply the techniques and recognize how to improve the song on their own. As they improve, they will be able to sing more challenging music. Because every student has their own unique goal, they are expected to purchase music and books accordingly. I prefer my students record their lessons to help facilitate their practice. I strongly encourage the purchase of a recording device if you do not already have one, or at the very least to bring a note-book. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical singing and opera. I believe that having a good foundation of correct breathing, placement of sound and relaxed singing is important for any music style. When the voice as an instrument is taken care of properly, any style of music is possible. I teach these three things as fundamentals to every student no matter what genre of music they want to sing in. We then work from there to add the stylistic nuances that separate genres.

I am probably a little older than most of Sarah's students, but I felt at home with her right away! She is just what I needed at this late stage in life to motivate and teach. I look forward to my singing lessons and know that she will tayler our lessons to my needs and range. I'm learning and loving it! Thanks Sarah

    Experience

    Voice and Beginning Piano Teacher

    Aug, 2013 - Present

    RLS Studios

I teach voice and/or piano to students ranging from 6 to 18 years old. Lessons are held once a week and the students study a variety of music from pop to music theater and some classical. Most students participate in the end of semester recital showcasing not only their technical abilities they have learned but also stage presence and composure. I also work with students on their upcoming auditions for different choirs they would like to participate in at school.

    Voice Teacher/Beginning Piano Teacher

    Apr, 2008 - Jul, 2008

    Keyboard Classics

I taught students ranging from elementary to adult how to improve their vocal ability in the style of music they enjoyed. I worked with a few adults who wanted to improve for their karaoke nights and some who wanted to sing jazz. I also helped young students learn the foundation and basics of music as we learned how to properly play the piano and sing. I was employed there until moving to Arizona.
