I'd like to start off by stating that I am above all a passionate musician, who loves to share this passion with everyone and anyone. I do this by teaching and performing the Violin. My first goal in being a teacher is to make you enthusiastic and passionate about music to make learning the Violin more enjoyable and therefore you will learn quickly and become a virtuoso faster. My second goal is to teach you discipline, an important skill in not only Violin practice but also in life in general. Learning a musical instrument can really be beneficial in future work environments and in schooling. Below is my resume if interested. :) Sarah is a classically trained violinist beginning her schooling at the age of seven where she showed great promise as a performer. She has since studied with Marla Feeney, a graduate from University of Indiana, and Helen Kim a Julliard graduate and a member of the Atlanta Opera and former member of the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra. Her teacher family tree includes great teachers such as Nathan Milstein, Dorothy Delay, Cho-Liang Lin, and Oliver Steiner. Sarah has played with many groups such as Cobb County Honor Orchestra, Georgia Youth Symphony Orchestra, Pope High School Mastery Orchestra where she played as Concert Master, and Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra where she is currently principle second violin. She has also premiered as a soloist with the Pope High School Mastery Orchestra playing the Bruch Violin Concerto. Sarah also enjoys playing in quartets where she has performed at multiple weddings. Sarah now plays with the Kennesaw State University Symphony Orchestra under Dr. Michael Alexander where she enjoys experiencing great music, and continuously learning how to become a better musician. Sarah not only is a prolific performer, but also has a long history of teaching. She has taught multiple children from local middle schools, motivating them to continue their musical education through high school. Most notably, Sarah has taught for two years at a Summer Violin Camp in Lake Charles, Louisiana organized by the Lake Charles Youth Symphony Orchestra and Mcnees University. At this camp she was a main violin instructor, teaching both group and private lessons to students ages 3 to 18. Her unique and enthusiastic teaching gained much praise when she was featured in the local magazine "Jambalaya". Her students at this camp are continuing their music education with passion and plan to join their local youth symphony. *** Lesson Details *** “Teaching music is not my main purpose. They get a beautiful heart.”--Shinichi Suzuki I have unique and personalized lesson plan based on your unique talents and needs as well as what you would like to do with music. I want to make learning and playing the Violin fun for you, something that will bring happiness for years to come. I have three generalized lesson plans based on skill level that are organized in a fashion to not only be fun but efficient in teaching. My teaching methods are unique in that I use parts of many methods that I have found to work with students and with myself personally. I use technique methods such as Suzuki and Sevcik, scales studies from Carl Flesch and Julliard Scales Method, and etudes from Mazas. By using many methods I am able to set a strong foundation in all areas of Violin playing. Not only will I teach the Violin to you, I will also share my enthusiasm for Violin music. I will teach you the history of composers and the instrument itself, and make CDs of the music that has inspired me to be a Violinist. My expectations are very high for my students, but I cannot emphasize the importance of patience and understanding in learning music enough, so when I teach you, I promise to never over stress you with work, to never be hurtful or harsh, and to always have faith in your abilities as a musician no matter the obstacles. And in the words of the great Violinist Itzhak Perlman, "One of the most important elements in teaching is listening." and I plan on teaching by those words. If interested, below is a general outline for what I will be teaching you, but of course these are subject to change based on what you would like to learn. Generalized Beginner Lesson Plan: Ear training, reading treble cleft notes, understanding rhythmic notation, basic Violin "how to", violin care, all one octave Major scales in both Legato and Detache bowing styles (Legato meaning a slow beautiful sound and Detache meaning a harsher shorter sound), Suzuki books 1-3. At this level for younger children I focus a lot on teaching through games and flashcards. The biggest goal I have for beginner players is to have a good ear, intonation is extremely important to becoming a violinist! Generalized Intermediate Lesson Plan: Sight reading, shifting into higher positions on the finger board, vibrato ( a term that means to vibrate the note using a rather difficult hand motion that can be difficult at times, vibrato adds to the overall tone and musicality of a note), all Major and natural minor (natural minor meaning a minor scale played exactly as it is stated in a musical key signature) two octave scales played in various rhythmic patterns as well as in various bowing techniques, Suzuki books 4-6, Mazas Etudes Speciales, Sevcik shifting studies The biggest goal I have for intermediate players is to be able to play naturally, the instrument should become apart of you, it makes the music you create more enjoyable and personal. Generalized Advanced Lesson Plan: Performing, music theory, all Major, natural minor and melodic minor (melodic minor is a different way of playing a minor scale that involves a more advanced understanding of scales and key signatures) three octave scales in the Julliard Method, Carl Flesch scales studies (focusing on playing scales in different techniques such as arpeggios (a way of playing scales that involves a lot of shifting), thirds (a common harmony that is used in all music, and is present in a lot of Violin music), sixths (another common harmony, that is another way of playing thirds), octaves, and false harmonics (a technique that is difficult, but very interesting that makes a very wispy airy sound and is used in a lot of Violin music), Bach sonatas and partitas for solo violin, Sevcik, Mazas, the Concerto repertoi *** Studio Equipment *** Music Stand, Piano *** Travel Equipment *** I provide sheet music (to keep) and stand (not to keep) I expect students to have and instrument, rosin, shoulder rest, notebook, and folder *** Specialties *** Classical Violin, Unique Teaching Methods Including Suzuki
