Having played guitar since the age of 14 I have been trained in classical guitar and eventually obtained a music degree from Claremont McKenna College in California. Specializing in Classical music as well as Brazilian genres such as choro, bossa-nova and samba I also have interest for blues and classic rock. I take students who both want to learn classical guitar or are interested in learning to play pop / rock songs. I have performed in several restaurants and events while living in California including Pitzer College's annual Kohoutek Festival and the 2008 Democratic Party Santa Barbara Jefferson Jackson dinner. *** Lesson Details *** I am a laid back person and like my students to take an interest in my class by teaching music that the student likes. I think that in order to be a good teacher I need to balance students with both fun material, such as learning songs that the student enjoys with the more "boring" stuff such as technical exercises so that they build a solid technical foundation. Students of mine are also taken in the direction that they wish, for example those that wish to learn to read music will be taken into that direction. Those who do not wish to learn to read music will not be taken in that direction. *** Studio Equipment *** Living room, couches, electric and acoustic guitars, amp. *** Travel Equipment *** I can provide the teaching materials. I expect my students to have their own guitar. *** Specialties *** I specialize in classical guitar and Brazilian musical genres such as chorinho, bossa nova and samba. I would be the right teacher for a beginner / intermediate student looking to play the acoustic / classical guitar and who wants to develop right hand technique as well. I also play some electric guitar, however that is not my greatest strength.
