Specialties

I often use the Hal Leonard, and Bastien methods for beginning students. I implement these these methods in most of my students lessons. Additionally, I supplement these methods with sight-reading exercises, playing by rote, ear-training, and theory. I specialize in all the classical styles of piano music. However I am flexible according to the various needs of the individual student.

As a professional musician and educator, my goal is to bring a positive and fulfilling experience in music through dedicated teaching. Piano lessons will be an enjoyable yet challenging activity that will enhance the student’s appreciation of music. My mission is to nurture, motivate, and bring out the student’s fullest potential and talent in musical performance. I am committed to excellence in music education and work towards the growth of intelligence and discipline in every student, ... making piano lessons a pleasurable and fulfilling experience.

As a piano teacher, I strongly believe in the importance of a firm musical foundation. In lessons, body posture, hand position, and technique are strongly emphasized. I teach my students to become comfortable with reading notes, sight-reading, memorization, and performing. Additionally, theory and ear-training are incorporated in the lesson as well. These aspects are very important as they are the fundamental things needed to produce a well-rounded musician. Thus, in my lesson plans, I cater to each student’s individual strengths and weaknesses in order to provide a well-rounded education.

My teaching philosophy holds to the belief that lessons should be tailored to the student’s needs and goals. I work to motivate and instill self discipline in the students. Furthermore, I teach my students to develop their own unique style, attempting to bring out the highest potential and level of musicianship from each student. Thus, I familiarize the students with various classical styles and repertoire as I feel this is an important part of musical education. I work to make piano lessons enriching and enjoyable for every piano student.

About

Salley, a native of Los Angeles, has given numerous performances throughout the United States and Italy. To highlight, she has given performances at Colburn School of Music as a Young Recitalist Winner, performed in various venues throughout California as a state Master Class and Panel Honors winner, and has performed as a soloist and chamber musician in Positano, Italy. Additionally, she was a state finalist in the CAMPT honors audition, and has received 2nd place at the Korea Times Music ... Festival, John Walker Competition, and the Cypress College Competition.

Beginning her studies at the age of 6, she studied under Young Sook Park. While at the Northwestern University, studying under the tutelage of Alan Chow, she was a recipient of the Henrietta Schwartz scholarship, A&H Cottingim Vankirk Scholarship, and the Corrine Frada Pick Piano Award. She then attended the Manhattan School of Music to complete her Master of Music under the direction of Nina Svetlanova, a pupil of the legendary Heinrich Neuhaus.

Salley has performed in various music festivals, including ARIA International Music Festival, the Las Vegas Music Festival, and the New Orleans Music Festival. Here she has studied with renown faculty such as Angela Cheng, Yong Hi Moon, Antonio Pompa-Baldi, and Emilio del Rosario. She has also performed in Master Classes for Nelita True, Melvin Chen, and James Giles.
