My name is Ryan T, and I am a guitarist and vocalist with a degree in Music Education major from Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. I have been teaching guitar, music theory, and songwriting lessons to students of all ages for the past seven years. I am excited to draw on my experience as an educator and as a band leader to teach students the tools and techniques necessary to make the music they love. I work with all of my students to foster their creativity, confidence, and curiosity, as I believe these are the qualities that are essential for a skilled musician. Music is a powerful language that is common to all people. I am a musician because it allows me to express myself artistically, to relate my experience to others, and because it moves me! Students who take lessons with me will have the opportunity to learn acoustic and electric guitar technique, music theory, music notation, ear training, songwriting techniques, recording techniques, and how to work with other musicians and instruments. I believe that developing a musical “inner ear” is equally important to technical facility on an instrument. As a result I employ many tools in my lessons to promote a more comprehensive musical understanding. These include a large library of audio and video, piano, percussion, voice, and multiple guitars. So let’s start making some music! *** Lesson Details *** Students can expect lessons that are relaxed and at a comfortable pace, focusing on what the student is most excited about learning. I have found that students learn best when they are actively engaged in the material being taught, and interested and invested in their own success. A typical lesson will consist of: Warming up (tuning, ear training, vocal exercises) Review of the previous week's material "Thinking Work" (theory, scales, chords, notation, etc.) "Fun Work" (improvisation, music listening/analysis, learning and creating music) Wrapping up (ear training, lesson review, and practice assignments) *** Studio Equipment *** Living room and rehearsal space, stereo, can use a guitar for the first lesson, parents of young students can wait during lesson. *** Travel Equipment *** I will provide supplementary materials (handouts and music) and I expect the student to have an instrument and a notebook. *** Specialties *** I specialize in Beginning to Intermediate Guitar (acoustic and electric), Music Theory, and Songwriting Techniques. I am also familiar with and prepared to teach beginning Voice and Recording techniques.

Great guitar teacher Ryan is a really great guitar teacher. I've had no experience with guitar before and he is doing a great job getting me started and teaching me a nice mix of music theory and practical guitar skills. I am progressing much faster than I thought I would.

great teacher My son is 7 and has only had 4 lessons thus far. I'm surprised at how much he's learned and retained in such a short time. Ryan is very patient and keeps him engaged, but in a very relaxed environment. He is excellent with young children and my son loves working with him.
