What’s special about learning music is every person’s musical journey is their own. My musical journey started on piano, which included singing and accompanying on piano (choir and chorales), and also learning clarinet, and violin. It was clear in high school that my music journey would be through piano performance. I studied piano performance at UC Davis with Lois Brandwynne as well as accompanied the UC Davis Chamber Singers (Al McNeil, conductor) and for master voice instructor Stephanie Friedman (Mezzo Soprano). I discovered contemporary music while in a jazz fusion band "Melange" and also co-leading the UC Davis gospel choir (With Calvin Lymos) and landed at Berklee College of Music studying music composition, arranging, and ensemble performance graduating with a Bachelor’s of Music. Professionally, I have played keyboards and sung back-up vocals at wedding gigs and special events. I have performed with chamber groups, classical soloists, and performed contemporary music with great musicians here in the Bay Area. After starting a family I took a long break. However, I am now back into music full time focusing on voice and piano instruction. My style is teaching music in an accessible way that provides a thorough foundation to help you meet your goals. Giving you the confidence to truly express yourself no matter your level of playing. Whether this is a hobby, or you are seeking performance at a higher level, or a beginner that always wanted to learn but never had the time (and now you do!), I am here to help get you started on your way to your musical journey. Let’s get started! *** Lesson Details *** Lessons for piano entail the use of established piano series books at the appropriate level for the student. Music theory in addition to coverage of basic piano skills are covered. A beginning student should expect within 3-6 months (based on their efforts) should be able to play simple songs, play with both hands, and be able to read music at an basic level. Lessons for voice entail using material that is from an established voice teacher and music curriculum that extends from beginner to music college level. Learning correct techniques for breathing, learning scales for agility of the voice, and song interpretation/ material that is of the interest of the singer or enhances the learning of the material the singer wants to learn. For example, learning some basic elements of the blues enhances the singer wanting to learning pop, rock, jazz or R&B. At the 3-6 month point the voice student (based on their efforts) should be able to produce a reasonable tone, have a strong understanding of good breathing techniques, be able to sing simple songs at a basic level. *** Studio Equipment *** For voice (Highly prefer to teach at my studio or Voice Studio) I provide live piano accompaniments and pre-recorded accompaniments, microphone, record lessons for students to take home and listen to later. At the Voice Studio: Electronic Keyboard, microphone, live or recorded accompaniments, recorded lessons For piano lessons: I provide a Mason and Hamlin upright piano in excellent condition. *** Travel Equipment *** For piano the student provides the piano. For voice the student needs to provide a piano or keyboard.
