    About Robert H.

Robert H is the Director of Percussion at Sprague High School in Salem, Oregon a position he started in 2011. He also teaches private students at Uptown Music in Keizer, Oregon since 2007. Robert has taught students as young as four years old, up to the age of sixty-four, which explains his belief that no age is too young, nor too old, to pursue an education in music. Robert has taught at a number of schools, including South Salem High School, West Salem High School, McKay High School, McNary High School, and Crossler Middle School. Determined to learn more, Robert is continuing his music education at Western Oregon University in Monmouth, Oregon. Robert is a drum set player, orchestral percussionist, and rudimental drummer. Beginning in rock ‘n’ roll bands as a thirteen year old drummer, he continues to perform and record as a freelance drum set player specializing in rock and jazz. As an orchestral percussionist his most recent performing stint was with the Salem Concert Band during their 2012-2013 concert season. He was the principal (1st chair) percussionist for the Salem-Keizer All-City Honor Band in 2007 & 2008. Recently Robert has played drums and percussion for recording projects alongside Mark Powers for Tonya Gilmore’s EP, something to run from (Ravens Flight 2013), and full length-album Phantom’s Fill The Sky (Ravens Flight 2013). He also collaborated with Noah Hall on two tracks for his Class Picture Project (Ravens Flight 2013) album release. The most recent work he recorded is a full-length album to be released by the band, Seahorse, during 2014. In 2008 Robert won the Oregon District IV solo & ensemble contest in the category of rudimental drumming. Qualifying for Oregon’s state contest, he placed fifth overall performing Phantom Phire by Marty Hurley. In 2009, he participated as a snare drummer in the Oregon Crusaders Indoor Drumline, winning a WGI world championship in the Percussion Independent A-Class division in Dayton, OH. Although now too old to compete in the sport of rudimental drumming, he now teaches younger players that aspire to have similar experiences.
