Learning piano and guitar at a young age, I quickly developed an ear for music which led me in the direction of performance. Writing songs with the guitar as the main instrument gave me the framework needed to compose songs for various bands, tv theme songs, commercials and live theatre. As an experienced school teacher I understand the importance of different learning approaches and creating a clear and enjoyable lesson plan the keeps the student both enlightened and focused. As a laid back person, I enjoy the interaction with the student and don't believe in only directing the course. I thoroughly enjoy making music and equipping students with the skills needed to perform on their own. *** Lesson Details *** Being a good teacher means understanding the musical desires and needs of your student, which method the student learns best by and the techniques used to reach their goals. As a teacher, I'm a laid back person who doesn't just direct the student but interacts with them. As each student may begin at a different level, I am careful to asses their abilities and focus on strengthening their needs. Great teacher Rick has helped me a bunch with learning how to improvise better. He taught me the basics of how to play lots of different genres. He makes an effort to learn songs you want to play so he can play along to help you learn it.

Supportive, professional and fun! My daughter took bass guitar lessons in Germany with Rick for a bit over two years. At first it was to play in a girls' band which soon ended up with him coaching the whole band and encouraging their song writing. Then my daughter joined the high school big band at a music-focuses high school. This was pretty daunting for her as there was a lot of chart reading to be learnt and a huge range of styles. Rick really did his research to make sure he was also on top of the repertoire. Within three months she went from maybe joining in on 1-2 pieces to playing the full set of 11 songs. My daughter was so well trained - Rick offered extra time to make sure she felt comfortable with all the changes. A real highlight for her of course was getting to play with Rick in his band at his final show in Frankfurt, Germany. As a professional classical musician I was very impressed with his level of technical knowledge as well as his ability to expand on his own expertise. Listening to them "jam" was a real pleasure! I think Rick's secret is loving music and wanting to share this with whoever he gets to work with. Key to that was his patience and belief in each individual's potential. CA you are lucky to have such a great musician and teacher! Have fun.

Guitar Lessons with Rick Rick is a kind, laid-back and fun teacher I can highly recommend. As an absolute beginner I was worried I might end up playing songs that are easy to play but not my taste. But instead Rick always helped me play the songs I picked so it was much more fun practicing. He always figured out the chords, made changes if it was too difficult for my beginner level and made the songs playable for me. He is absolutely reliable and I highly appreciate his flexibility: He was the only teacher in Frankfurt/Germany who was willing to give lessons at the student's house – for me that saved a lot of time and helped me to solve the babysitter problem for my little one (thank you Rick!). Unfortunately he moved back to the US – but good for you… so if you are looking for a teacher, pick Rick, he is a great!
