My name is Richard, and I am a musician/violinist/composer with a Master of Music in Composition/Theory from Penn State. I began violin lessons at age 5. Since then, I have been involved in bands, orchestras, and choirs throughout school. As a composer and recording artist, I am interested in electronic composition, interactive media, songwriting, film music, and video game music. I have experience writing music for and working with orchestra, choir, chamber ensembles, solo instruments, film, and video games. Along with my sister, Cecilia, we released our debut electronic/pop album, "Henri," under the name, Umu. I have experience teaching violin, piano, music theory, songwriting, and audio production lessons. I'm always open to the interests of the student and what he/she wants to learn. Being exposed to a variety of different styles of music throughout my life, I can share these experiences through teaching. Whether you are interested in instrumental performance or music composition, you can expect to have a fun time learning things you never knew about music. *** Lesson Details *** For the most part, students can expect a fun and laid back teaching environment. I will encourage the student to create reasonable goals. If a student is interested in a particular style or genre, I will ensure that I provide them with the necessary technique and understanding to be able to succeed. After 3 to 6 months of lessons for instrumental lessons, you can expect to know at least a handful of pieces you are interested in, the basics of your instrument, and some music theory fundamentals. Likewise, for songwriting and audio production, you can expect to have written, composed, and produced a couple of songs and projects. *** Studio Equipment *** Music studio with keyboard, guitars, violin, music stand, computer, sheet music. Parents are welcome to sit in on lessons. *** Specialties *** For teaching violin, I am familiar with the Suzuki method. I also encourage ear training and rote methods for all instruments. Improvisation, theory, and having fun making music are necessary to facilitate student growth.

I hope this is the right guy that I had, since I am not too good with facial recognition. That studio looks familiar, though, so I'm going to hope this is the right guy. Mr Richard used to be my music teacher but things went rough when COVID hit, since everything was so unsure and unclear and completely confusing. Ruined my violin and piano lessons. I don't know when the last lesson we had together was, but it's so sad possibly never being able to see him again, since we also moved away from the area. He guided me to Middle School Honors Orchestra! He's so talented and he is very good and patient with me, even if I didn't do daily practices due to loss of motivation, but he still kept me wanting to go on. He was really a big part of my music life. We shared our love for video game music and he even gave me music for Final Fantasy on the piano. I still have it and I still sometimes play. His method of teaching was really amazing, and I didn't just consider him a teacher, but also as a good friend, too. I'm a person with not a lot of people to talk about with when it comes to video games and its music. He has games that I've played that are not too popular with my peers! Made it amazing. I was super happy having him as a teacher, and ever since COVID + moving out, I've never had another music teacher since then. It might not be a really good ending, but I really miss having him as my teacher. I don't know if he sees these reviews, but if he does, and he remembers me, that would honestly be so cool. I've lost my motivation for playing and am no longer taking lessons for either piano or violin.. I think I should, since I'm not very confident in my sightreading, but first I'd have to show my dedication to learning again, and if not, I would have to pay for it. Man, if you see this, Mr Richard, I miss you. You're such a great teacher, and those years with you teaching me were some of the best years of my life. I believe he really cares a lot about his students and how they feel, and he's very friendly and has taught me a whole lot. Other than him, I think I've only had one other teacher in America, but she wasn't as fun as Mr Richard. Lessons were boring and unmotivating. She was more strict. I might be painting every other music teacher that's not Mr Richard the same color, but it's kind of hard not to, with a fun guy as Mr Richard. Now, at least I am able to play whatever melody I hear by ear. Might be rough, but still fun. I lost motivation for a long time but I'm starting to get back into violin (and sometimes piano) and just playing random music I hear from video games. His lessons really taught me a lot, and has helped me so much. I'm very glad I had him as my teacher. Sincerely, some teenage girl who's getting a bit emotional now. Thank you for everything, Mr Richard. Wish you all the best.
