Specialties

I follow the singing guidelines of Richard Miller, and approach singing in a very systematic way. However, while I think that it is important to understand the physiology, I also believe that some terminology can get in the way. Therefore, I get my students to experience the sensation, before describing the physiology.

Lesson Details

I believe that learning music should be a fun and exciting journey, and in my lessons I provide my students with a positive experience that will leave them feeling fulfilled and excited. There is so much stress and tension in life, and music helps us to alleviate that tension. Furthermore, there is no greater hindrance to healthy singing than tension. Therefore as a teacher I make each student feel as comfortable as possible. I am a very patient, and I work hard to help my students reach ... their individual goals.

After a several months of taking lessons with me, you will have a greater understanding of your voice, music theory, and your ear will continue to be challenged and developed. Furthermore, we will have worked on various types of repertoire, including pieces that you bring to me, as well as some wonderful classical music. We will explore different languages, styles, and techniques of singing. All of these aspects of your learning can be accessed through the combination of vocal exercises, repertoire, and hard work.

I am currently a director at the San Francisco Boys Chorus. I recently finished my Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the University of Oregon. Before attending the University of Oregon I received my B.A. in Vocal Performance from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. While in San Luis Obispo I taught private voice lessons, directed two choirs at the Central Coast Children's Choir, and directed a church music program. Furthermore, I was ... given the opportunity to consistently work with several choirs at the university. While in Oregon, I directed several different choirs, taught privately, and was a Graduate Teaching Fellow in Music Education. I thoroughly enjoy teaching and I treat each student as an individual, and work hard to meet their particular needs.
